Could someone explain to me the impact of the announced future increase to 6.4kW of the on-board charger in the XC60 T8? Specifically, if I charge on standard U.S. household 110v 15 amp service will I see faster charging time with the upgraded charger? Or do I need to have a 220/40v 20/30 amp service to take advantage of the new charger capacity? Can you estimate the charging time estimate for an ER battery with the upgraded charger? I've tried to figure out the formula and searched for an on-line calculator to no avail...
Thanks.

It won't make any difference with 110v receptacle. With a 240v/50a, it will cut charging time by about 40%

This might help

I think zero, the only things I have seen mention 2 phase, which I think is different than what we have in the USA on 220V outlets.

My understanding is that 220V in the US is essentially 110V 2-phase, where each leg is 180° out-of-phase, which creates a maximum voltage differential of 220V. I wonder if that's what they are obliquely referring to. I could be wrong...

Yes, but I think UKs mains are 220v true 2-phase with them 90° out-of-phase, and that might make all the difference (or not) I really don't know. I like to think I am very good with electricity/wiring, but I really don't understand ac "phasing" much at all.

But I do typically see (2-phase) specifically mentioned in this context, and UK is different than USA in that regard.

They're wording it confusingly, I'm in Ireland which I'm pretty sure is the same as the UK, nearly all houses have single phase while the likes of restaurants, factories etc would be 3 phase depending on what they're running. 2 phase is a new one on me.
I've a 7.4kW home charger on single phase, that's about double the speed of what my T8 can charge at.
It looks like the new XC60 can charge quicker but still not at the maximum my wall charger can output.

Pioneer 4x4 this is what available in Ireland for home use.. Understanding Connection Capacity

I'm wondering can the charger be upgraded on existing ER's to take advantage of quicker charging speeds. It would be really useful in my circumstances as I'd get in two full charges a lot of days.

I believe when the part is offered, it might be possible to swap but it probably would be quite expensive. It will be interesting if it becomes a cheaper option down the road/

I would only do this if Volvo endorsed the process and allowed the warranty to remain in place.

This is what I thought the UK has (I really don't know)
Two-phase electric power - Wikipedia
This is what USA has (I'm pretty sure)
Split-phase electric power - Wikipedia
And again it might not be relevent, but I've always seen the "2-phase" in reference to Volvo and 6.x KW charging.

my guess is that it is largely irrelevant. i think the hz might be more relevant but i think that can adjusted as well. what might be more relevant is whether is 240 v or 220 v or some other number as the higher the voltage the lower the charging time in question.
