When did Volvo start with the immobilzer (theft preventer) built into their ECU's???

99 w/ the S80 I believe.

If your key has a rubber coating at the base instead of hard plastic you have an immobilizer key.

Yes my 99 C70 has it. I knew that.

I'm Looking to find the timeline when they started doing this. Want to use a late engine without that feature in the ECU.

Mine's a '98 and doesn't have it....I'd say '99 was the first year, but not sure which models...all or only some?

ALL 99's had the immobilizer.
