Hi there,
I am trying to get a problem resolved with an IMIV, rear view camera and Nano (video).
I have attached a copy of the e-mail sent to Sensolutions. Just wondering if anyone on your side of the Atlantic may have the answer? In a nut shell I am getting black and white images sent to the Sat Nav screen.
Hi Matt,

Hope you are sitting comfortably and have a packed lunch!

Well it is now 9.30 in the evening UK time so you will be on weekend off.

This is the full issue (s) which need resolving or I will have to send it all back for a refund. I have to say the iPOD integration works fine. All the issues are video or camera related.

I purchased the 'Apple' composite AV cable which was plugged in to the iG3 cable as required.

So the first issue is the rear view camera showing a black and white image. I have done the following to try and help eliminate some points.

Firstly a Sony DSC camera was plugged in to the composite (yellow) input of the IMIV. This gave a clear COLOUR image to the screen on the HU803 on source input TV A. This is when I found that the fuse holder on the first camera power cable had no spring in it therefore not giving a good permanent circuit. I fixed this with the second lead provided.

So the next step was to feed the Sensolutions camera with a clean 12v DC supply independant of the car and feed the image to the IMIV. This too gave a black and white image. I then took the camera inside and using again a 12v DC supply plugged it in to my Sony flat screen TV. Hey presto a COLOUR picture!!!!!!

So now on to the Nano (video). This when plugged in using the iG3 cable and 'Apple' AV composite cable connects up giving audio but yet again a black and white picture on the HU803 source input TV 1. I checked the settings on the iPOD to make sure it was set to PAL and normal picture settings. To be honest it made no difference whether set to NTSC or PAL.

I then connected by iPhone 3G using the same setup and got the aircraft warning message. Irrespective of this the phone charges and plays the music videos in full COLOUR!!!!

I have tried the latest drivers V 1.9 and the video enable patch. Still good old black and white with the rear view camera and the Nano. But full colour with the iPhone 3G. Further to this the iPhone 3G did not need the iG3 cable. (money possibly wasted?)

So I am out of ideas now and would like some help! I obviously do not need to send the camera or power cable back as I have fixed them and confirm that a colour image is being sent from the camera as described above.

Why would a sony camera sourced composite output fed into the IMIV give a good clear image in COLOUR and your own supplied equipment not? Then when connected to a TV set the camera shows a COLOUR image? So is this an IMIV, driver or camera issue?

I await your reply

Thanks

Chris

The plot thickens as though to say. Having been on Sensolutions web site I tried the following. I plugged my Nano into the composite input of the IMIV using the 'Apple' composite AV cablewith the left and right audio. This again gave me a black and white picture with the Nano, but a COLOUR picture with my iPhone 3G.
I then tried the Nano plugged into to my TV with the 'Apple' composite AV cable. This again gave a COLOUR image?
This is making me think there is an issue with the IMIV's composite video input not working correctly?
Hopefully Sensolutions can solve this.
Chris

Re: IMIV installation (chris2134)

It's a TV equiped car issue. I remember someone else running into this same problem about a year ago. Try disconnecting the TV module (tuner) and see if it resolves it.

Thanks for the reply but the TV tuner has been removed as the IMIV becomes the second in the Melbus chain.
Chris

Re: IMIV installation (chris2134)

Well, I still have a boot full of wires and this is not resolved. I have now fed the rear view camera into the Imiv and the output from the Imiv was plugged into a portable TV. This gave me a colour picture.
It still does not explain why if I use my Sony camera and use that to feed in the composite input I get a colour picture and when I use the Sensolutions camera I get a black and white image.

Note that this is a CD-based RTI issue as mentioned by ss60. You can test the iMIV's video output by connecting the green RCA output of the iMIV to some video input device. You'll find that the video signal of all sources connected to the iMIV are correct.
Some wiring suggestions:
Make sure that all devices/equipment in the car that use video connect to the same groundpoint. Also connect the grounds from the videocable coming from iMIV, running into RTI (there should be 2, if you are using the special RTI/video cable for DVD RTI from Sensolutions) to the correct pins of the RTI (see CD based-RTI documentation from Volvo for the correct pinout). Try to tie the video ground wires together if that doesn't help.

Re: IMIV installation (mrg_Ed)

Well even Mr IMIV has not solved this one. I have installed the IMIV which works fine. The rear view camera which although tested through the IMIV video input/output give a colour picture to a TV monitor does not to the SAT NAV screen.
There seems to be an issue with the quality/strength of the composite output that the Sat NAV/RTI is not happy with.
The IG3 cable unlocks the Nano but again only shows a black and white picture. When I plug my iPhone into the IMIV I get colour pictures no problem.
I have tried numerous phone calls to Sensolutions in Canada and they have tried to help but seem to have dried up?
Well last chance is Bob in the Netherlands? Hi Chris,
I am sorry to hear that our products or service did not meet your expectation. We have discussed you issues internally several times, and were under the impression that you were going to get back to us with a response to our last reply to your email. This would have allowed us to set the next step in assisting you resolving this issue.
However it appears that you also asked VolvoTech in Holland for assistance as well, and that is where confusion started.
I hope you can understand that if you ask for support from us, and then do the same thing from one of our distributors, it becomes rather confusing.
To come back to your video problems, this has to do with the fact that you have a CD based RTI system - something you never mentioned to us prior to your purchase. Though we have many customers with these systems that work fine, every now and then it does not – from a video perspective - . Your system has that particular problem. It is for that particular reason that we can’t and do not officially support CD based RTI systems. This is stated on our website, and we would have advised you on that had you have contacted us on the pin-out of the RTI CD connector. However, you acquired this pin-out from VolvoTech, which - it seems - , did not advise you of the potential problems or policy (no support for CD based RTI systems).
So with regards to the video signals not showing a color picture from some sources, this is typical error behavior of CD based RTI systems.
Therefore, to say that our back-up camera is of poor quality would not be an accurate statement - I do not see you saying that the iPod Nano is of poor quality…
To summarize, what is happening here is that you are using a video system that is approved (and designed) for DVD RTI systems only. Consequently with you changing the cable connector to match that of a CD based system you assumed the risk of losing support.
I would like to say that we are proud of the products we design, make and sell. If you are not happy we will offer you a full refund for the products bought and returned in a re-sellable condition. If that is what you want to do please let us know – you require an RMA and instructions for a return. We request that, in order to safe bandwidth on the forum, you do that via email.
Re: (iMIV Support)

Thank you for the reply;
Only a small entry as a great believer in the freedom of speech!
The product is excellent. I wish you had a UK distributor! I did put on my order in relation to the system being CD based although I fully accept the message on the Web site re systems supported being DVD based only.
A learning curve for me yes. I originally tried to order the items through the European Distributor Volvotech but on the night there was a technical issue with ordering not going through and 'hanging' mid transaction.
So as I had received good feedback I used you as a point of purchase.
For anyone who has a DVD based system there is only one way to go for integrated iPod use and that is the IMIV. The unit works very well and I have no intention of returning it. I will have to put up with a black and white rear view camera and that is it.
About the camera, I had a quality control issue with the connecting power lead. Which I have to say Sensolutions sent a replacement no problem.
In mitigation you can see why when I did reply to your e-mail (several phone calls to Matt Bobyn in Canada) that why does one video input source work and not another?
As you have stated this is an issue with the CD based system so the matter is closed re the rear view camera. Is this the same in relation to the Nano using the iG3 cable also giving a black and white image whilst my iPhone gives a colour image.
This post was never a slight at Sensolutions or its products. I was just trying to get what is a well made unit with practical functionality to all fully work.
Thanks
Chris
