All of the manufacturers are taking apart the new XC90 so they can knock-off all of the safety devices and construction.

Then they advertise themselves as having state-of-the-art safety features.

Meanwhile, on the other extreme of the small overlap test.

Zowie!, what a death trap. This model also got a marginal score on roof strength.

Wow...someone would probably be without a left foot and/or a shattered knee cap after this...

I'm quite disappointed with Mazda, once a leader in styling and engine technology, among other things, not to mention providing the FWD platform Ford used before they bought Volvo.

There are around two dozen other vehicles that are Top Safety Pick+s too. Surely they can't all be copying Volvo!

I certainly hope so! That's a form of copying that can save lives. In fact, Volvo gave away many of their safety patents years ago.

^ The Mazda CX-5, 3, and 6 were also Top Safety Pick+s; the CX-9 is the same design it's had since its inception 8 years ago. It's more a reflection of the fact that Mazda hasn't updated the CX-9 since making it than anything else.

.

Glad they're finally catching up.

And let's not forget the 12 yr old XC90 scored a 'good' on the small overlap not too long ago.

Also, the 2015 Mazda5 'poor' on the small overlap, and 'marginal' on side.

The 2015 CX-9, 'poor' on small overlap and 'marginal' on roof strength.

2012 CX-7, 'marginal' on roof strength, 10 yrs after the amazing XC90 roll-over demo in 2002.

Volvo, in this century, has never built cars this bad.
