I really enjoyed the XC70 T6 with the Polestar tune during our drive in Arizona. Just a great blend of on and off road performance. So, we got to thinking, what if we applied a little swedespeed to the look and performance of a XC70.

After some serious consideration by all potential parties to be involved, it doesn't look like we'll be moving forward with a project like this one at this time but I wanted to share with current and prospective owners our concept and perhaps spark a little outside the box thinking.

The concept was fairly "simple", make the XC more like a V70R, and through the use of a coil-over suspension offer XC or R ride height depending on the driver's preference. Yes, this is counter intiutive to the design of a XC but since the V70 is no longer available in the US, why not offer the best of both in a vehicle that is available.

Some of the enhancements included:
- matte body vinyl wrap
- color matched cladding for a monochromatic appearance
- black trim and front grille
- black roof
- R-Design mirror caps
- euro headlamps (no amber corners)
- 20" or 21" HRE wheels
- sway bars (IPD, ViVA, EST, KPAX, or Polestar components if available)
- downpipe & exhaust (IPD, ViVA, EST, KPAX or Polestar components, if available)
- window tint
- coil-over suspension (airbags may be a bit extreme)
- Brembo or Stoptech brakes.

Had this been a personal car, I would try to find a salvage S60 T6 R-Design seats, blue gauges, sport steering wheel and either brushed aluminum trim or a carbon fiber look.

With a few styling changes centering around monochromatic wrap and a new classic wheel design from HRE, we think this XC70 would be a modern interpretation of the old 740 Turbo. We even thought about recreating the old ad of this wagon next to a Lamborghini pulling a U-haul trailer.

Hopefully, we'll get an opportunity to build a wagon along these lines in the not too distant future, but for now we'll keep dreaming up ideas for an obtainable, Volvo enthusiast wagon.

This basically looks like a V70 T6 AWD, R-design. If offered I would have purchased it over our current XC70 T6. Heck, I'd settle for a R-design XC70.

As a newbie to Volvos (and to this forum), I find myself with a quick-question...and I'll mention that I have an XC70 T6 (w/Polestar) coming in early (hopefully) July, and this thread certainly caught my eye!

What are the specific aftermarket suspension options to lower the ground clearance on the car I have coming? I'm looking for specific parts and suppliers, and this does *not* need to be an adjustable situation...I'd like to permanently lower the ride 2-3 inches, and this can be permanent.

I'm already planning on upgrading the rear sway bar (and possibly front) with stuff from IPD...and I'm in Oregon, so I may drive to Portland to have this done, to meet the folks at IPD in-person...if I don't attempt this myself. It appears to be an easy project.

TIA for any and all help!

EDIT: I just learned IPD closed their service facility in December...I'll be doing the sway bar swap-out myself.

Nice idea but the choice of wheels is totally non-flattering to the car not mentioning they would be an absolute nightmare to clean.

all of the above, plus a V8 engine from the S80. i've always wondered how a V8 powered Volvo wagon feels like ...

Recently I noticed that Heico sells a sport spring for the XC70 T6 that also mentions works with 4-C. Sounds like what I've been looking for as well. Does anyone know a Canadian (or NA) distributor/reseller?

Great idea! New here but I have been following for a while. Recently purchased a new 2012 xc70 to replace a 1994 940 Turbo wagon that replaced a 145 wagon. Agree that if a v70 T6 w/AWD were sold I would have gotten that instead and an R would be even more desirable. Seriously considering the Polestar for HP and Heico springs to lower the car an inch. Would love to hear from someone that has tried those springs. Want to lower the hight and firm up the suspension a bit but still want it to be comfortable. Added IPD HD springs to the 940 wagon along with Bilstien HDs and the ride got a little harsher then I would have liked. I think there a number of people who buy the XC70 because it's one of the last wagons for sale in the US yet would rather not have the high stance.

You want to know what a V8 powered Volvo wagon feels like? It would feel essentailly the same as the T6, but with worse fuel mileage.
Having driven the S80 V8 AWD and the S80 T6 AWD, I have to disagree with this. They may look similar on paper, but the V8 behaves much differently. I'd call it... less sophisticated.

A monochromatic XC70 T6 AWD... similar to what's now an option on the XC90... I would figure out a way to afford one right now.

I have to agree with Yannis, those rims just look funny. Too bad this concept won't become a reality...

I found this quite gratifying at first, but then just got annoyed once again that the V70 is no longer available, not to mention a V70R, or even R-Design. There's something very wrong with the fact that the next best obtainable alternative to the Benz E350 (the only full-sized wagon in production in North America) is something like this—an OEM wagon modified to a crossover wannabe tuned back in the aftermarket to resemble a full-sized sport wagon. Yikes.

All I can say is WOW, I would take a loan out for that. But probably go for white or gunmetal.

Great PS work BTW

Necro-thread Warning:

I'm looking to buy a used T6 xc70 and maybe modify it a bit (especially since polestar tune is now available for all years of the T6). 2009 and 2010 t6 models are getting into my price range.

How would you go about coilovers on this car? I'm assuming you'd have to go custom? - or is there someone out there that makes ones that fit? I love the idea of a slightly lowered, tuned xc70 - sort of a DIY T6 AWD we never got here in the USA.

At very least I'm going to get better anti-sway bars.
