Ummm. Let's see. While I really, really like the looks of the new GTI, there are a few things to consider.<br> First, no trunk. I love my trunk.<br> Second, everyone will have one. S40s are still hard to find, at least here.<br> <br>Besides that, there is a reason why everyone has one: they are awesome. If you go to the dub side keep us updated, and still post. Aaron (Skwirl) will hopefully chime in on why/why not to get one. Good Luck!

Played out is probably the biggest deal breaker... No modified S40's in my town. I think i pass a modified GTi (previous gen.) pretty much every day so meh not impressed.

That is one reason I really enjoy my 40 - nobody has one, and if they do, it's bone stock. For some reason though I just keep coming back to the GTI. Damn Germans.

I'd say in the Seattle area I've seen more S40s than GTIs oddly enough, and this is after I started driving the R32 so I was on the lookout for both cars. You will see more modded GTIs than S40s, but that's no surprise to anyone on this forum I'm sure.<p>You loose a trunk but the hatch is handy for hauling stuff too. One of the reasons I switched from my S40 to the R32 was so that I could haul my dog in the back.<p>From what I've read the improvements to the 2010 GTI are good. It's cheaper/easier for them to build now than the current MkV Golf, they've changed the windshield and side mirrors and added more sound dampening to the car to make the cabin more quiet, and they've updated the interior to be a little more luxurious.<p>I have the DSG transmission, it's awesome but it's not for everyone especially if you can't live without a clutch pedal. You can software tune the motor for more power and it's cheaper than Volvo software tuning. A lot of the aftermarket stuff is cheaper because more people mod them.<p>Reliability always pops up when people discuss the pros and cons of VAG cars. Strictly from my personal ownership experience of a 2008 R32 and from talking with my parents who own a 2007 Jetta Wolfsburg, everything has been peachy. A common issue with my car is a fuel tank purge valve issue and that was fixed under warranty. I had a wheel bearing replaced recently, but that was my fault for hitting a pothole when it was dark and raining on the freeway.<p>Wait, I'm supposed to convince you not to get one? Er... only boy racers with sideways baseball hats buy these and in America, hatchbacks automatically mean you're driving a poor girly car. <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.vwvortex.com/vwbb/biggrin.gif" BORDER="0">

idk its a tough one<p>i really used to like GTIs and VR6's but now not so much<br>i deffinatly think its because they are too common<br>volvo is awesome , because its a novelty and even more so when modded<p>i say +1 to volvo

i also love the gti. i kinda like having a lot more people driving tuned ones. i mean whens the last time you've seen a s40 and just wished they had one performance part so you can talk about it. or even gotten a second look by a s40 driver.

Agreed on the Volvo community. They are way to diverse to be the 'wave to everyone who drives one' kind of cars. The R crowd are really the only ones you can count on a glance or wave from.<p>Your Volvo is pretty nice with all the parts listed in your sig, any reason why you want to get rid of it? Or are you just wanting something new?<p>Also, the V60 does look sweet. I'll definitely be taking a test drive without intent to purchase when they come out.

Dude, get a C30!<p>Definitely the GTI is played out, that's why I LOVE my C30. It's a hatch, and there are hardly any of them. Especially having an rDesign car, because there is such a drastic difference in appearance from a base model C30 to flashy rDesign or even just a sport kitted T5.
