The angle gear on my 04 S60R M66 has a bad bearing noise. A rebuilt AG is $1645.25 and they do not sell internal parts at the stealership.
I had the AG resealed last August by the dealer under warranty as it was seeping fluid from the gasket between the two halves.
As far as I know, it has to be from a M66 car, one from a automatic will not work? Any advice would be welcomed.

um, are you sure it's not just the rear bearings? Those fail pretty frequently as well. You need to check if your AWD still works or not. Plenty of threads on how to do that. If not get it checked out by someone who knows how!

Can bearings be sourced for the angle gear? My car has 57,800 miles on it, I can't believe it has a bad bearing.
If I remove the collar gear will I have 1 wheel drive? Or will the trans fluid run out or into the angle gear?

If you remove it you run the risk of the spline sleave falling out and that will cause all your tranny fluid to come flying out .

You can just remove the drive shaft and go on your way thou ...

I had a noise on acceleration/with RWD engaged. Check to see if you have any driveshaft play.

My entire assembly was replaced under warranty as the upper engine mount tore, and then my driveshaft could be moved by hand about 1/8"

Huh? What's wrong with it, just bearing noise?

You could get replacement bearings pretty much for anything.
Take the gearset out and pull the bearings off. Usually the part# is right on the ring, if it's not too scratched up. If it is, you could go by dimensions. SKF supply bearings used inside the M66AWD tranny (I checked), so I'm guessing the angle gear as well.

I sourced mine from these guys:

They could even match your old ones and possibly find an upgrade. http://********************/smile/emthup.gif

I spent about 4 hours today finding parts. I have new bearings, a crush sleeve, and seals ordered. I will post part numbers when I get the parts. Parts cost was about $185.
I found a local mechanic to put it all back together for me, cost $160 to $180. I am having a mechanic do the assembly because I want to make sure the gear mesh is correct, and I have no experience with gear mesh.
The ring and pinion are in great shape.

Re: (vlvman)

SKF 32010-X Bearing, ring gear shaft
SKF 32010-X Bearing, ring gear shaft
SKF BR32006 Bearing
Timken 3007X 92KA1 Bearing, pinion shaft
Dorman 81058 Pinion shaft crush sleeve
SKF 15354 Seal, pinion shaft
SKF 18951 Seal
SKF 692507 Seal
SKF 10924 Seal

Volvo has not released the pinion shaft bearing to the aftermarket, it is a Koyo bearing. The Timken bearing listed above is the same size.

The angle gear is at the mechanic' shop awaiting assembly.

The above parts including 2 quarts GL5 lube totaled $211.07

I will post results when it is installed.

Re: (vlvman)

Nice! Did you get them through applied, or volvo?

applied recommended me timkin ones also, although I still went w/ SKF, just not the exact OEM part#. Now that I think about it 32010x was one of the bearings for the diff.

any pix of the timkin vs skf ?

Great work! Please post more pics, of the parts and the reassembling.

Did the old angle gear noise appear during driving, rolling in Neutral or when lifting the car and turning the Propeller/Drive shaft?
