I know the car is horrifically dirty. It's been/still is raining and they're paving my street. The note left a name and phone number. It's a pretty deep scratch and a long scuff. Should I involve insurance or push for a deal without any deductibles or half?

What would you do? (Other than a nice hand wash : p)

Can't tell from the picture there if it's gone through the paint. I would try buffing it out as much as possible, some touch up paint can do wonders.

What's the question here?
They gave you their number, call them with your estimate

Be grateful they left a note, it doesn't look too too bad so I'd see what the other person wants to do. My guess is they would want to avoid insurance it doesn't look like it would cost more than the usual 500 dollar deductible to repair and they avoid a surcharge.

$360 estimate. The picture is bad, but it's definitely through the paint.

The question is what would you do - touch-up paint? Worthy of a body shop? Etc.

I'm very thankful for that. The note makes it seem like it's someone who recognized and appreciates the R. Waiting on a call back now.

No Deductible if you know who did it. I do insurance for a living if they don't want to pay up right away file a claim and have your insurance company deal with it. Here in mass they will pay to fix it if you have full coverage and then go after the other party to get their money back. The other party would avoid a surcharge by paying out of pocket if not their loss they will pay more in the long run.

Without a doubt I'd bring it to a trust worthy body shop and like I said the other party would probably prefer to pay out of pocket and avoid the surcharge and it is probably save some money compared to their deductible.

I mean unless you want to be really nice to the person and can live with touch up paint and a good buffing, but it is never going to be a perfect repair.

Wanna help me with my hit and run in mass lol
You need help with a hit and run in MA? This state is terrible, I've lost two side view mirrors and no note (not on my Volvo). If its your bumpers that need to be dinged just go to the North End and park on Hanover st for a few hours and you won't need any help. Keep in mind on a hit and run you'll have to pay the deductible .

Sorry to see! Luckily the person left a note. The top just looks like paint transfer. Some polishing should probably do the trick. The bottom part looks a lot deeper from the photo. Probably some touch up paint, sand it down some with 2000 grit then 3000 grit and finally compound the area and follow up with a polish.
