Well, i work as an auto detailer at a Volvo dealer and some people from volvo came to let the managers drive and get a feel for the car. So before they left with it i gave it a quick bath and my god, was that car gorgeous. I drove a silver V8 with all the options and the car just had an extremely upscale feel to it. What is your opinion on the NEW S80?

Re: I drove the NEW S80!!!!!!!! (volvo262)

Drove an All options D5 today. Very nice ride, smooth 6 speed AT. Overall quick response to throttle input. Car was on 245 tires but the ride was comfy.
Engine is a tad to noisy for a car in this class with a modern diesel engine.
Did I mention no 4C?

There was this metal like exhaust roar at certain RPM which simply was to loud for this type of car. Maybe you might expect a sound like that with an R but not with an S80D5. Also I'm pretty positive the XC90 doesn't make as much noise with the D5 engine.

On the highway the car handled very well. Had it up to ~120 mph. Roadholding was OK also, did a few nasty moves but the car responded very predictable at all time. 245 tires were mounted.
Toyed with the manual mode a bit but the AT is doing OK also. Nice AT box, better than the old 5 speed.
It was a pretty much loaded version D5, Dynaudio, NAV etc.. Same price level as a base V70R.

Re: I drove the NEW S80!!!!!!!! (Johann)

Johann:
I am thinking about the new S80, how is the rear leg room compared to the old S80? I read the Volvo pdf and it states the wheelbase is now 112" which I would assume means more leg room. How was the transmission shift logic did it know when to upshift/downshift. Recently I had a chance to test drive the 07 G35 and its transmission was near perfect for knowing when to upshift/downshift and hold gear. Very good for a 5 speed unit.
