RANT: I cant stand this POS car anymore

When I first test drove this car I fell in love with it. Great handling, just the right amount of power, and it had a high class smooth ride to it.
Now I cant drive it down the block without thinking about what a total POS ford it is, this car is sucking the life out of me.
I have 20k miles and cant stand the car anymore. The once nice suspention has broken in and is now total poop. It feels over sprung, at the same time has massive body roll on even the slightest turns. The steering is too heavy at slow speeds and too twitchy at highway speeds. To top it off the once smooth ride that I used to get complements on is gone, replaced with a ride that's both floaty on the road and harsh over bumps. This car drives like a hyundai, with all the short comings that only a car made in Korea can have.
Every day I kick my self for not getting a VW, I was driving in my friends TDI jetta and it blows this car out of the water feeling like new at 20k miles.
But thats not all the once fuel efficent engine cannot break 26mpg to save its life even though Im driving almost all highway now. And the trans is in old man mode.
I cant even talk about the rattles that this almost new car has. Both front speakers sound blown out and they rattle the front doors at even the slightest volume. On top of that I have a mysterious rattle from the trunk thats not inside the car. The trunk rattles like a tin can when I close a door or play music. Its embarrassing.
I'm so frustrated by what a pos ford this car is. I know I can fix it but I would rather get rid of this pile and get a real car. I need springs, struts, bushings, and camber plates to even get the car back to how it was, and I just dont think its worth it. I will never buy another ford again.

None of your problems are warranty related? Sorry to hear this, man! I have had my V50 for only over 2 months, and I will say the quality is not close in comparison to my 2002 A4...I miss it.

Sorry to hear your troubles...every now and then I have some moments that I think I should have bought a different car, but I don't have any of the issues you are having. I am really tempted to get the new camaro but I don't want a car that everyone will have.
Veefifty: I am surprised you feel the Audi has better quality, most people I've talked to say Audi has horrible quality in the long run but are super fun to drive...I was looking at an S4 before this car...

Hey Carrera- I had my A4 from 36K-100K and had literally no problems. I had some common issues come up, but nothing the forum didn't help me with. As far as interior, the Audi has it way over the Volvo. Many creaks in the Volvo, and just the look of parts isn't as "luxury" as the Audi. I guess I feel many things are scimping in quality.

Re: RANT: I cant stand this POS car anymore (zerocover)

I have 71k miles on my car now and have none of the problems you are describing. My car still runs smooth and is rattle free. The suspension is little on the rough side, but that is due to my lowering the car. The main complaint about the car is the aluminum center console that gets small dings.
My sister has a 2005 Audi A3 DSG at 40k miles she bought at the same time I bought mine. At around every 5-6k miles, the car needs another quart of oil. She had to get her transmission replaced for shifting problems. Recently, her car stutter violently when she started it up. Her car is at the dealer now getting that problem fixed. Although the interior is nice, she is scared to buy another Audi or VW. So I guess it's all relative.

Every car has its quirks, I'm just a little disappointed in the interior mainly.

I agree the interior lacks some luxury. I wish there were some better materials on some of the stuff, i.e., the stereo knobs.
What color is your interior? T-tec or leather? I have the (off)black leather interior and I think it is the best looking interior for our cars, besides the two tone ones that people like KennethB have. I am obviously biased. However, I have some big plans for redoing my interior that I think will turn out well. Some people might not like it, and I guess it is kind of 'dubber' or whatever, but I will be doing my own custom headliner and other stuff like that.

I have the quartz/beige t-tec which I actually don't mind. Coming from leather, I thought I'd be disappointed, but it's decent. It's more guages, lighting, paneling that I think is a bit flimsy. I miss the white/red dash lighting. The Volvo green is so common...

Lamborghini Gallardo. I'd lose his completely fake blonde accessory though.
My only complaints so far have been small things, I love my car. I still glance back at it when I am walking away from it. Still get tons of compliments too.
Any chance of the car the OP is talking about being a lemon?

Interior rattles in the S40 annoyed the hell out of me, I feel your frustration. I can't speak for the suspension issues since I replaced the shocks and springs with aftermarket parts a few times.
I've put 14k miles on my R32 so it's still too early to tell, but no rattles so far and I'm pretty happy with the stock suspension. Great balance between daily drivability and sportiness.

Yeah, Skwirl's car is sick! I sat in it at the last Seattle GTG and the seats are awesome! I really like the interior of it. But you do have to factor in his car is a newer model year and all new cars have better and better configurations...

I think alot depends on the individual car...
I've had 5 VWs and some of them were great and some were a constant struggle with everything from interior rattles to major engine issues. So far the S40 seems fairly solid and my GTI is still running strong so I'm happy. I wouldn't go buy a new VW though (Hence why I have the S40)
I hope you can sort your car out!

I haven't had a single heavy discouragement about my car yet. The only frustrations I've had so far is the difficulty in upgrading the stereo, and not being able to put a remote start in that meets my expectations.
I have owned some real pieces of crap, but I've also driven and ridden in other high end cars, and this seems par for the course.

Re: (mofolicious)

I have been pleasantly surprised by how well the S40 is built. I'm sorry that you may have got a "lemon" of the group.
It's funny, but you go to the VW forums and they always complain about the reliability of their cars (and horrible dealer service).

Re: (callmedoc)

Yea, some of the dealer stories are pretty horrible on vwvortex. I'm lucky that there's 5 _great_ VW dealerships within 30 miles of me so that everyone stays competitive.
That's not to say Volvo was bad either as there's 4 awesome Volvo dealerships nearby. I would be weary of buying a Mitsubishi Evo X around here as there's only one dealership that seems to know anything about them and they're 40 miles away.

I have a fantastic dealer that really takes care of me.
The problem with this car is that the problems aren't glaringly bad, just enough where I know something wrong. That being said I think the chassis its self has loosed up. A strut tower bar front and rear would prob fix most things. And while the struts aren't blown I know if they were replaced the car would ride much better. I would stop having traction problems too. I need to really get the car on a lift and poke around, the dealers going to tell me nothings wrong. Prob reset my trans adapters and send me on my way, where everything will be back the way it is in 2 days. Hopefully its something easy like needing an alignment bad.
On that lemon issue I think it might have had body work done on it at the dealership before I got it. My rear bumper has what I can only describe as waves in parts that should be flat. Like right under the license plate
Anyone know if the sport suspention s40's got different struts then the normal ones?

Re: RANT: I cant stand this POS car anymore (x-omatic)

I am on my 3rd Volvo and each one has had its issues. With the 2nd, I swore I would never buy another Volvo. I bought my 3rd after the 2nd was totaled. So far, number 3 is doing well (except for the radio that freezes).
It takes some time to get the kinks out. In spite of the problems, my Volvos have been cheap to repair and maintain.
I almost bought an A4 until I spoke to my brother in law who has one. They had various electrical problems, the stereo replaced 3 times, transmission replaced and then the engine. I am sure that there are some good Audi's out there.
Stan

I had to drive home from upstate NY last night 150 miles round trip. It was a white knuckle drive the whole way down. And my brief stints at 80 mph left me pooping my pants, The car fought me the whole way. Massive toe out is t he only way I can explain it. The car drives strait but requires constant correction left then right, never being happy.
This car is gong to the dealer first thing on monday.
