So as I said in my Introductory post I was having some issues opening my hood consistently. In the past few weeks it's gotten impossible to open even with some motivation (pressing down while pulling latch, etc).
Over the weekend I purchased and installed a new hood latch cable - the most difficult part, even with my fancy "new" Windows 7 laptop that somehow has VIDA 2014d installed on it, was getting the hood open in the first place. The drivers side latch would not release. I carefully removed the grill, I unbolted latch that normally is used to open hood after popping, then undid the two bolts that secure the latch. On the bottom of the latch is a plastic piece that slides off towards the center of the car. Once I got this off, I was able to pop the latch with a screwdriver. Upon inspection, the cable from the inside of the car looked to be in near-pristine condition, while the cable that goes to the two latches looks like it was the victim of a small world war.
As an added bonus, the hood open sensor is now working properly, which means I have no more warning light, and my NFC door lock/unlock has started working. As well the beep when engaging the alarm.
Being able to open the hood is such a load off my mind, and I figured this would be a good place to share. By doing this myself I saved at least $700 from what the dealer quoted me.
