Just been poking around over volvo's radio table ( http://vccs.volvocars.se/acces...7.htm ) And It appears that there is an AUX analogue input for both the 850 and the 650 Hu's
But unless i'm very much mistaken, my 2007 V70 SE with HU-850 lacks this quality. Where should it be? or is this a misprint?

Re: HU-850 Aux input? (Brad999)

This was a running change in the midst of what was the 2007 model year. Not all 2007 models have them. I had thought there was a reference to which build weeks or chassis numbers this applied to but it seems the information has eluded me.
The change may have also been region specific.

Thanks. Anyone with a 2007 model with the AUX jack, know where it goes from and too. Is it just a case of fitting a cable, or do I need a different amp?

You wouldn't mind doing a quick trace for where it goes to would you? or what the cable connects to? It would be really useful.
Cheers
Brad

Re: (Brad999)

Brad, There are two options: it's wired as a MELBUS accessory--much the same as the aux input using an iMIV--or it is a direct analog aux-in to the HU. If it's the former, then an adapter will be between the jack and the HU. If it is the latter, then the HU must be an updated version with a direct input.
A possible way to know if you have it--although I guess not (if you did you would probably have the jack)--is to look at the channel options across the top of the HU display. You should be able to see them all by turning the panel light intensity to high; it might be more visible at night. If you don't have an aux option then it's highly unlikely that you have one.
Your local dealer should be able to tell you if there is an adapter & cable or if it is hardwired directly to the HU (the new HU will have a different part #). If you do not have NAVI, an oem iPod adapter or SAT ready then you should have one DIN connector plugged into your HU. If you remove it and find two, that might indicate the aux-in is melbus.
Volvo does not list the aux-in as an installable accessory on its website. I'm inclined to think that it's a direct connection.

Yet they WILL provide the iPod adapter?
Yeah, to Brad's question, if you DO have the aux-input, it's a female headphone jack inside the center armrest compartment as mentioned. It's on the top portion of the rear wall. Here's a pic (and yeah, the thing is messy, I know--that's why there's a lid, right?):

The wire itself runs under the left side of the center console, then back behind the stereo to the DIN-input on the back of the unit. I tried tearing one out, but with no luck as it is bundled with other wires that are tied together with plastic rings mounted to the chassis itself. Then behind the headunit the aux adapter is taped up in the headunit wiring harness. It would be a pain to remove it. And it still might be connected to an external power source of which I'm not aware. From what I could tell, there weren't any modules attached to it.

Re: HU-850 Aux input? (Brad999)

Not sure how you plan to use the aux input, but I can relate that I only used it for a short time with my ipod. It's a quick way to get your ipod to play via the hu but there's no integration. So you have to keep it charged somehow, you have it to turn the ipod on separately every time you start the car, find the track you want, etc, etc. Kind of a pain....
I just ended up getting an IMiV which is so much nicer as the ipod is always charged, turns on and off with the car, pauses the track you were on when you turn the car off and continues again when you start the car, and you can control the ipod via the hu and steering wheel controls. Much nicer!

Re: HU-850 Aux input? (meshugy)

Jexx: so it appears to be a melbus device.
Noteworthy, though: the aux-in allows the use of any mp3 player, not just iPods.
meshugy: good points.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Had a quick check today, and couldn't see AUX anywhere on the HU lcd. So it probably is HU specific. Bit of a shame. Might have a moan at my dealer and see what they come up with (*hopes for oem iPod adapter*) but probably not alot. AUX would have been nice, because although I have an iPod, others that sometimes get in the car don't, and I would be able to use my laptop with the AUX, don't ask why!
Anyway, thanks for the help
Brad

Re: (MrTippy)

After further investigation, Aux in is only available on:
- Cars with a build week after 0648 (which i assume to mean week 48 of year 2006).
- Aux does not appear as a channel option across the top of the HU display. It is simply a word that is displayed "Aux" in the main part of the LCD character display.
- These radios also allow you to adjust the Aux-in line levels independently to account for differences in level inputs across a variety of devices.
Re: (apl175)

Does anyone know where I can find out the v70's build week? And I presume the Aux-in line level is somewhere in the source menu, I cant remember it being anywhere, but it might only appear with the cable plugged in
Cheers
Brad

Re: (Brad999)

Ok, checked on the seatbelt manufacture date, which is 06, week 32. Which would explain why I don't have an Aux in. However I will have a word with my local dealer, with a copy of the radio table, and see what can be done. I don't like to make a scene, but it can be arranged

Brad, did anything ever come of this? I have an '05 with the HU-850 and would like to get an aux to use with my Droid. Any idea on the part # for the cable which came on some of the '07s?
