Hi Everyone,

I have now taken delivery of my car & I'm thrilled to bits with it!

I have a question for you all though. I have the HU-803 stereo fitted and also the Volvo Phone kit. When the phone is in use should the stereo automatically mute itself?

Yes
Johann,

Thanks for the prompt reply, I thought that it should, however my dealer tells me that it doesn't. Now I just have to work out how to persuade him that he is incorrect.

Is it the in dash kit or the Ericsson or Nokia carkit.
The problem is that the HU-803 is an all digital can-bus system and the mute function is activated over the can-bus.
If your dealer sold you an original setup mounted after receiving the car they have to install a special access device which converst digital to analog and can talk to the can-bus system.
With it they have to order the wiring harness and a connector to the carkit.
This device costs a small fortune (~$180-$200) and it is easier and more cost effective for them to tell you it doesn't work........

Conclusion, you dealer sucks and wants to make a quick buck.(simple as that)

The factory system comes with the mute function activated.
I posted this to Volvo UK: "I have the HU-803 unit in my car in addition to the Volvo hands free kit. I hear from other Volvo owners that when the phone is in use the stereo should mute itself. I have checked with the supplying dealer and they tell me that it doesn't. Who is correct?"

I just got this reply from Volvo UK:
"I would like to advise that this is called "telemute" and it is an option that requires an AEM (accessory electronic module) to be fitted to the car. Your local approved Volvo dealer will be able to advise you costs of the unit and the fitting."

Bearing in mind Johann's reply, is this something that is usually fitted as standard when fitting a phone kit or not. UK responses particularly welocme!
Re: (JC-UK)

Interesting , I have the factory fitted phone fitted along with the mute function . I trust this means that I have the AEM (accessory electronic module ) fitted .
However , I also have the reversing aid fitted and I know that it is possible for the radio to be muted when reversing .At the minute it does not mute and when I asked my local dealer what was required to activate it he said it needed a AEM (accessory electronic module) fitted.
Can anybody tell me if a seperate electronic module is required for every item ( phone and reversing aid ) or is only for required for everything?
