My car is running fine but I was curious if it is possible to tell if the previous owner replaced the ETM. Is there an updated part number? Is it true that even if the recall were completed, the ETM could still fail? The recall fix is just upgraded software and not a replacement part, right?

It will be <B>yellow</B><br>You can see it in front (looking at the front of car) of the engine, the yellow tag sticks out so if it was replaced that's the easiest way to tell

A number of people have also had the actual ETM itself replaced under recall and as Jim said, the tag on the ETM will be yellow if it was replaced. Really, the yellow tag ETM also has the same design flaw so it will fail at some point also. The best fix right now is from xemodex.

<br>Mine was yellow-tagged and failed at a little over 100K - so Volvo got to replace it a second time, but very reluctantly. <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.vwvortex.com/vwbb/biggrin.gif" BORDER="0">

I know of some yellow tagged 2000's from 5-6 years ago (03 -05),<br>I'm sure they're on their next (3rd) ETM by now

Re: (zpmada)

If you have had (from 2006) the #155 recall (everyone should have by now) you should be able to drive it.<br>That was one of the items in the upgrade, not to strand anyone
