i noticed while dynamatting my trunk lid that there are actually two parts to the trunk lid, and it's that second part that causes most of the rattling with subwoofers -- how do you remove that 2nd piece of the trunk?

if you dont quite understand what i'm trying to say...

where the seam on the trunk lid is, it separates...

Re: how to remove the other section of the trunk? (Cicada)

You mean you want to remove the cover? The entire rear side of the trunk lid is a plastic snap on piece, held in place by several plastic fastners (10 or so).
If you get rid of your license plate cover instead and line the back of the license plate with two layers of dynamat I bet your rattle will vanish.
I have a 12" Boston Competition Sub in my trunk with one layer of B-quiet (same stuff as dynamat) and absolutely no rattle at all.

I've got a couple wedge paks lying around from when i wanted to do the trunk lid, but never got around to it, so i'll more than likely do the trunk lid and license plate today -- right now i have two 12" JL W7's in a ported box, so i kinda need as much damping as i can get

Re: how to remove the other section of the trunk? (Cicada)

I don't know how they release at the top, but the bottom ones have a notch which slides sideways (parallel to the bumper just under the bottom edge of the plastic). I released mine by accidentally backing into a brick fence post
I had rattle before doing the license plate too - it disappeared once plate was covered with damper. note* this was without any liner on the trunk lid, I added liner to the lid later.
Re: how to remove the other section of the trunk? (Cicada)

i did 3 layers of dynamat extreme on the plate itself, and that helped quite a bit, but i think im gonna need to eventually do the whole trunk, trunk lid, and the trunk lid cover to eliminate almost all the rattling... :|
