As most of you know, my car isn't stock. I don't have as many mods as Boosted, R-Rated, Blot and some of the other "hardcore" guys here, but like many of you, I have the basic bolt ons - ECU/dp/exhaust.
After a while I find myself thinking - my car feels slow. I catch myself thinking "maybe something broke" and I'm not getting all the hp I should. Maybe it's the gas...or MAYBE, I'm just getting accustomed to his level of power and I'm used to it - "numb".
Well the other night I was visting my parents and took my dad's 2000 Boxster out for a spin. I remember when he got it - I drove it and thought it was pretty quick. I gave it some gas, and even though it was in the meaty part of the car's power band, as I mashed the gas, I found myself thinking "why arne't I moving???"
Made me think back to that old Wendy's commercial - "Where's the BEEF???" There wasn't any. Talk about no torque.
the car handles great and is a lot of fun but with only 210-215hp - and not a lot of torque - it doesn't exactly shove you int he seat.
so if you ever find yourself getting "numb" to the power of your R, or you get a bit bored with y our car, go drive something else. Unless the "something else" is a Z06 - you'll be happy to get back into the R.

That's why you should get nitrous. It will comfort you in times like this.

That was one of the neat things about having an APR chip with multiple programs in my TT. Even going from 225hp to 263hp with the flip of a switch (actually depressing the cruise control button), I could tell the difference in the same car in a matter of seconds!
-Eric

Re: How to know you're "numb" to the power in a modded S60R???? (Our R)

I was curious how others like their mods. I am thinking about getting the Evolve power package and would like to know some of the pros and cons. Right now I am running a stock S60R, everything but climate and navi package.

That's the fact of life for us who are addicted to horsepower. After a while the car just doesn't feel as fast. It's like taking a bath. Sooner or later the water will feel cold.
Best solutions is to just drive something else (unless it is faster than the R). Suddenly you realize your is damn fast.

that must be a good reason why it would be good to have one slow car in the household. then when you drive it - you can appreciate yoru own car.
my other car - an S70 T5 - has exhasut..and while it lacks the overall pwoer of the R, it's pretty darn fast....so it's not a good car to make my R feel "FAST". My S70 would blow the Boxster away...but only in a straight line. once there is a turn, the S70 stinks.
everything is relative.

One thing I wonder about is KR, my friend with a Spuercharged engine is having a devil of the time with his mods...headers, pully, rockers etc....he is actually losing HP with every mod because of ECU mods not being in synch with the ECU.
He has gotten up to 10KR which not counting the HP loss the damage to the engine. I have been reluctant outside of my ECU from IPD to touch this engine for fear that unless someone was custom tuning the ECU every step of the way I could be losing power or causing harm.
Not sure if its applicable here but a thought.

Well, let's see... I've been driving an S60 2.5T since last Thursday. I should be getting my "R" back from Service today or tomorrow. Can't wait...
