I dont want to spend a fortune on giving my 2.4i more power but I am curious on what mods can be done that are safe for the motor and give bang for the buck power.
As far as performance mods I only have a Heico Muffler installed, not sure if it did anything but it sure sounds good.
How about a safe to use chip? or somthing else...

What about an ECU upgrade using BSR PPC? You could get 7 to 10 extra hp. Unlike the turbocharged engines you can not get more power than this via Ecu upgrades so I would think twice before paying it.
Sell it and buy a T5,
sorry but someone would have said that soon anyways ,
but to answer your question. scandinavian car tuning has upgrades up to I believe 185 hp, (which IMO , isn't really worth it) chips on non turbo cars only get like 10-15 hp.
If it were my 2.4 non-turbo , I'd spend the money in handeling and appearance.
Re: (imaqt823)

That said, why even bother? when it comes to rims, I've gone to some forged 13 lb 17 " vs my stock 25 lb ones and differance in 1/4 mile less than .2 sec. while this may be significant for most racers , it actually isn't much for a daily driver. so if you've got a 911 for speed why are you worried ? btw a T-5 6-spd fwd fairly bare can cost less than a 2.4 GT. just begs the question , why no T5 ?
bottom line is you can put about 2 k into an ecu and exhaust to get like plus 20 hp. that same 2k can also in many cases get a 2.4 driver into a T5. and for around 2 k a T5 driver can get the bsr stage 3.
but if you've already got a 05 911 for speed , IMO I wouldn't bother , the wheels won't slow you down that much nor will superlite wheels make you that much quicker.
I'd just stick with handeling and appearance, but check with sct , you might get like 190 hp with all they have to offer.
I think , you're car will pull the new rims regardless. you're looking at a plus minus 1/4 sec depending on wheels.
BTW, what new wheels are on the way?

Some people amaze me, they save a few K's on getting a 24i instead of T5 and then are prepared to dish same much money on upgrades, which will not get it into a T5 league anyway

Re: (V50_T5)

I was talking about upgrades to NA engines, which are hard [and expensive] to do, without changing major hardware anyway. Upgrading a T5 to stand against stock R is another story, it's doable and you have a very good chance to have a bier and Bratwurst afterwards

Re: (d_man)

i gave my K&N panel filter to my friend with a 2.4.
he was quite happy with it, found a bit more throttle response and breathability at the high end.

Re: (Mistral)

It surprises me as well as on other forums etc. F-body , for example , there's alway a bunch of people who buy new V-6 automatic Camaros and ask "is there a cost effective way to beat the LS1? " or "what do I need for a LS1 , manual trans swap ? "
so why do people buy the model with less power ? Money, (this kept me from getting a V70 R ) which still begs the question , why would the owner of a new 911 buy the non-turbo S40 AND then want to upgrade or even care ?

V50_T5 Being a car guy (or you wouldn't be hanging out on Swedespeed) I'm sure you can understand. People just like to fix up their cars. Even if they have a 930 as a the real burner, sometimes on your commute, you want to have a bit of fun even if you did get the less expensive model. It's all in good fun.

If you gents really need a reason why i got the 2.4i it was because it was dirt cheap and I already have a fairly quick car.
My concern is with a 28lb rim. I have 22lb 20" Axis rims, and 20lb 19" rims and my ride is terrible and the car feels like its pulling bricks, I made the mistake of ordering the Vol X from IPD without checking the weight. After I found out how heavy it was, this will be my smallest size wheel with the heaviest weight by far. Of course im not racing this volvo but I am concerned about making up my hill and learning if their are any negative or posotive effects before putting them on. If its all negs then I may have to sell these before they are installed. Would appreciate any help available in this matter

Re: (imaqt823)

sorry , if I offended you in any way. didn't need a reason was just curious as base model decisions then upgrades are usually what people with lesser incomes do. the 911 , just made me curious . perhaps too curious ,
but to get back on track, like I said from my expiriance. I went with 26 lb 17 x 8 on my other car to 13.5 lb forged 17 x 7 and results? .2 sec in the 1/4 mile. huge yes to some but minimal to others. your stock wheels are 22-23 lbs if you have 17s. so by adding 5 lbs , will your car be slower? yes, but how much? perhaps a 1/10 maybe 2/10th in the quarter but then again this is where you should look into what your car is and what you want it to be. 1/10 th slower but looks nicer, hey I'm a racer but think this is a nice trade off. 18 x 8 pegs are about the same weight. plus they are very durable.
I myself would try to find the best comprimise between durability, weight and looks. these just might be the Vol X you just bought. 5 lbs lighter , I might have purchased those myself. Heico may make a forged version of one of their wheels so I've heard somewhere?
either way good luck with your decisions.

Thanks for your help V50,
Im not so interested in the times just the feel that I will experience with heavier rims. the 20" axis rims were lighter and felt like the car had trouble pulling them along.
