I use the handheld attachment on a home carpet cleaner with the pet odour cleaning agent. It always works well for me and both my cars smell pretty good I must say
Although, it's hard to say the Volvo smells bad as it still smells like new.
new car smell is a combo of plastics, glues, fresh fabric that you initially recognize as new car smell. over time the smell is replaced by your own personal bo and the airing out of your car when you open/close it.

there's no way to maintain the new car smell, although in some porsches and bentleys that are specd with very high quality of leather covering nearly every surface, the "new car smell" is pretty much just the smell of all that high quality leather, and when maintained well you'd always have the "new car smell"

I bought my car with 8 miles on it, and I never had a new car smell. Volvo's are made green so they dont rely too heavily on adhesives to hold the car together.
Be happy you dont have the new car smell, its carcinogenic.

I use a turtle wax interior cleaner with oxi power and I've been quite happy. Got grease from the dealership off and it also works well on the carpets as well. I have the light quartz t tec, too.
