Hi all -
I have refined my search and am close making an offer on a few S60Rs. The one thing that still has me confused is the price range. I see them all over the map, and also am hearing of big dealer incentive programs on new ones.
I am ok with any year, either a 2004, 2005 or 2006, but would like the following..
1. Sport Package (would not buy without unless it had a diff body kit)
2. Climate Package (live in SF and heated seats are the win)
3. At least 3 years left on whatever warranty was purchased
I like the following, but could do without as well...
1. Premium (will probably put in own MP3 player/sub anyhow)
2. 18" Wheels (I assume there are aftermarket wheels available)
I have no need for the Nav Package.
So could someone give me a good idea of what I should pay for what I want, 2004, 2005 and 2006? Edmunds and KBB don't even have the right options listed, nor do they agree with eachother much in price.
Thank you all. Looking forward to posting pics soon.

your criteria is very generalized, so expect between $28k-$46k.

Re: How much should I pay for my R? (Tagsley)

Without premium you won't get sunroof. This could hurt re-sale if that matters to you.
By your description I imagine you are looking at used vehicles. The range for a '04 is usually in the mid 20's with average miles. The 05' are a little higher. I haven't seen many if any used '06s.

Sure, tease the fat kid!
Honestly, the price is the price. I am shopping for the car first, then will pay what its worth.
Heck, it took me a month to decide on the S60R over an M5 and C32. Whatever I spend its going to be cheaper than either of those.
Anyhow, I am not easily offended. And I do very much value input on things I might have overlooked....such as the sunroof thing. I didnt know I couldnt get a sunroof without Premium.
I re-read my question and it does seem a bit vague. Maybe I jsut want someone to tell me, "don't spend more than $28.5 on a 2005 with those options."
Anyhow, I appreciate ALL feedback. I already own a 97 850R Wagon, so pretend I am already in the club ok?
Thank you all.

Re: (Tagsley)

As for pricing, KBB has nothing for the R as you had mentioned. Try going on ebay motors to get an idea of what some of the asking prices are. I know that my leased '04 R has a buyout price of 23K after 39 months and 39K miles to give you some more perspective.
The '04 will definitely have the biggest selection on the used market, but the '05 comes with some niceties (i.e. the body colored trim, new center console, 6cd changer with premium pkge.) that may be of consequence to you, or they might not matter.
http://motors.search.ebay.com/...spiZ2

Re: (Tagsley)

To be clear, you CAN get a S60R with a sunroof but without the premium package but they are probably very rare (and I don't mean that in a good way). I know because I bought mine new off the dealer lot in March, 2004 in just that configuration (impulse purchase before I really knew anything about this site or the tradeoff I was making). Would I recommend that you buy a R w/o the premium package...absolutely not. I've spent nearly $2k upgrading the HU-613 stereo that came with my non-premium package R. Not having premium will hurt my resale, but I'm a buy and hold guy...I plan to drive this car for at least seven more years (assuming my mods hold up ).

Get a brand new 06.... Some of the dealers I've negotiated with came down all the way to $39K for a new S60R w/ ALL options (including Nav) except the sport body pack.... I just couldn't justify buying a used 05 for $35K w/ less options.

Re: (Tagsley)

Tagsley
Your probably running into the same problem i am, ever since i started looking for the R i have run into some drastic price variations for different models. I have seen 04 as much as 05, 06's lower than 05's. But for the most part all the 06's i have looked at are consistant. With the options you want the 06 are going for 46k. and for the same options the 05 are going for 33-35k. What i have been doing is going on autotrader looking at LA, Dallas, Philly, and New Jersey and seeing what they have an average sale price fore, What i found was in the North east They tend to be a little cheaper than persay in LA. I just came back fron Philly and i looked at 2 R while there and they were both 06 and they were giving customer cash and lease incentives. I may get my R from the east coast if i dont get it while i am in Korea.
Have you checked out the local dealers. I went to Turner Volvo here in Sac and they had two 06 R's Silver, Black and Red 04. These guys were eager to work out a deal with me and were willing to budge on the price, They have been there for a while. The Auto mall in Fairfield also has about 4 R's there i wasnt too happy with salespeople but maybe i wasnt used to the way they do business.
Where we live the weather calls for a Sun roof and the climate pkg, heated seats are a must in Tahoe so i know ill be getting those.
Have you considered Carmax, i have seen a couple R's on there and they are 1-3k below KBB and they have the no haggle price, you just walk in and buy the car you dont have to worry about sitting there for hrs neg. the price.
Are you willing to travel to get your R. I saw a couple 05-06 in PA, Nebraska, and in Dallas that were 3-7 k lower than out here . It seems the dealer is trying toget them off the lot. It is aug so the 08 should be rolling in within the next two months.
Or your could buy R salesman's R http://forums.swedespeed.com/zerothread?id=58147
Sorry for the long reply but i feel your pain.
BTW does anyone have anything good to say about CarMax ?

Re: (Token Blk Guy)

TBG -
Great to see someone sharing my experience! I grew up in Sacto, and my folks still live there.
I don't have any experience with Carmax, however I have heard to stay away from cars in Texas and Florida. Something about them not having to disclose certain attributes, but not 100 percent sure.
I love Lee's S60R and have emailed him. The warranty life might be a bit low for me, but otherwise it's pretty much everything I want in an R. Anyhow, he probably already has a buyer....
Do you know if the factory incentives ended in July, or still going? I am unlikely to buy a brand new R, but hoping that a low dealer price will push down the price of the 2005s.
Good luck on your purchase. I too am looking all over the country. If you do end up bidding on ebay, please let me know so I don't bid against you. You can email me as well at [email protected]
Best!
I can vouch for Lee's R. It was modded mildly at the dealer some by him and some under his supervision. oil changed regularly etc.

Re: How much should I pay for my R? (Tagsley)

Autotrader is a good source for used Rs. Look for a car in a more rural location and preferably at a store that doesn't sell Volvos. It probably came in trade because the first owner didn't like it for whatever reason and the store will be looking to unload it. That's what several of us have done.

Tagsley:
With the used vehicles, there are so many variables that it may just be easiest to pick ones you like, and come here with the specifics and ask whether it's a good deal or not.
As far as I know the huge incentive on '06's is only for leasing.
'07's are out and on lots, so '06's should have nice discounts to move them.
I plan on purchasing mine through Volvo's Military ownership program toward the end of my tour there. So hopefully when i get back in 13 months i will have a vehicle ready to take on i-80 and plow through the wonderful powder we had similar to this year.
As for the dealer insentives i know it ws only for the lease R's but the dealer i called while in PA was trying to move the two they had off the lot so they were offering dealer cash. They might have ended in july but i wasnt paying too much attention tot them since i couldnt take advantage of them.
You can always go with a CPO and they are equipped with 100k warranty and you could maybe purchase one to go beyond that.
I guess it boils down to what you want to spend and what youc an afford. In a previous post i was talking about the MKIV Supra and how people want 50k for a 10 year old car, i want the car bad but i am not paying that much for that car. It can wait!

Consider going for a 2006--some dealerships are highly motivated to move these cars. A couple of months ago Volvo was offering $10,500 in lease cash if the paper was carried by a third-party lender. You can then purchase the vehicle at a later date if/when it is advantageous for you to do so.

Re: How much should I pay for my R? (Zinski)

Thanks for asking this question because I'm in the exact same boat.
My preference is an '05 but I thought that they should be lower than 30K based on some of the prices that I'm seeing coupled with the great prices they are/were doing with the '06.
Based on what they were going for at auction (if you can find one) I thought it would breakdown like this:
'04 23-27K
'05 27 - 31K
'06 32K+
I dealer I talked to told me to put the pipe down when I told hime I wanted the '05 with 12K for less than the 33 they were asking.
Who's closer to being right?
