How much play should the engine mount cross brace have?

I can move mine back and fourth with my hands almost an inch each direction. Seems kind of loose to me.

it's better if there is no play.
Get the Engine Stabilizer Upper Poly Bushing Kit from IPD and your problems will be solved

To be correct....some people like it better if there is no play. However, it is designed to have play. Your scenario doesn't sound out of line if some forces is required to move it.

It's not a brace bar, it's designed to keep the engine movement down, and is designed with compliance built into the bushings to minimize vibration translation.

Having said that, the upper large bushing wears extremely quickly.

And the "new and improved" square mount has more slop in it than the round. Buy the IPD inserts and round motor mount to start and go with a stiffer lower transmission mount to tighten it up a bit more.
