I have a 2001 S60 2.4T with 72000 miles.

Today, I had an oil change and after letting the car sit for a while I checked the dip stick. I noticed the oil was over the line by about 1/8 of an inch, maybe a little more. Do I need to have some of the oil drained to the dip stick line?

Thanks.

Re: How much oil is too much oil? (soldonvolvo)

Just like any other car, too much oil is bad. Drain that sucka.

I wouldn't take my advice, but 1/8" is not much. I would just leave it.

The Honda dealer filled up my other car about 1/4" over the limit. It doesn't seem to have caused any problems in 8000kms. There are no bubbles in the oil or anything like that from what I can see.

It's almost certainly not overfilled by enough to cause instant or catastrophic damage, but if it were my car, I'd feel better if I drained some out to put it back in spec.
