I am considering selling my 06 T5 (which I LOVE) and drive my old 940T for a while to save some cash. Just curious what a fair asking price would be. I know the KBB but it is ridiculously low. It is a basic T5 (NOT Awd) with a 6 speed manual and T-tec seats. Couple other things are:
54k miles (all highway from 124 mile daily commute)
Very well cared for and in good condition
Non-Smoker
Mobil 1 Synthetic Ext. life used every oil change
Never been anything but a highway cruiser & babied/driven easy
All schedule maint. done
NO accidents
NEW TIRES
I didn't want to sound like an advertisement, so I will leave it at that but any opinions would be appreciated. I not very excited about the move but with a growing family and a spare Volvo (940) sitting around, it would be nice to save for a bigger vehicle.
Thanks

Modified by ncS60 at 2:40 PM 5-13-2009

Thanks for the input. I agree that most buyers live by KBB these days. Which can be frustrating when comparing multiple cars. I tend to look at how a car has been kept up and how OCD the current owner is. However, most people don't look after cars like we do so the $$$ sign takes the lead.
Thanks again

I have a GREAT solution!!! I'll buy your 940t off of you and you can keep driving your baby. I'd love to get another 940. How much do you want for it?

Re: (ncS60)

Personally, I think they ONLY way You can get a Volvo to come out as a Lower cost per mile vehicle today is to drive it till it drops! I drove My '06 to work for about 3 yrs & 100,000 miles, 120 miles per day also, same spec's as yours, KBB says it's worth about $8000 in trade, $10,000 selling private, and $15,000 retail.
If You continue to maintain it properly, keep it's appearance up, drive it sensibly, You should be able to put 250,000 highway miles on it and still get some decent value out of it by selling it private when You're ready for a new/newer vehicle.
Probably the BEST vehicle I've ever owned for retaining value has been My '96 F-250 Ford 4X4 diesel pickup. Thirteen years old, 297,000 miles, still looks & runs like new and I could probably still get $4500-$5000 for it, it stickered for $28,650 brand new but I didn't pay that for it. It'd bring more but it's only a reg. cab truck, SuperCab's & 4-Doors like it bring BIG money still.
The vehicles that I've taken the biggest beating on are the used vehicles I've bought and gotten rid of only 2-3 yrs later.

Thanks for the offer S40 Racer but I plan on holding onto the 940T a while. It only has 230k miles, so it's good for another 200k before doing a V8 swap.
POWERSTROKE: I couldn't agree more about the resale value and WOW mine is Flint Grey as well. I have owned many trucks throughout the years and Diesels are like Gold. They hold value forever and run forever. I would agree that I can't believe how much value my T5 has lost on Private Party value. It is way too good of a car for ME to sell at KBB. Same car at dealers all around is 6-8k more than KBB Private Party.
Thanks for all the help.

The t-tec is light grey and it has the aluminum trim as well. Thanks for the interest but I couldn't do 11 anyway.
I agree about the price drop for mileage and years. It dropped 4500 since last year.

AHHHHHH There's how We can tell Our cars apart! I have the off-black T-TEC! Will say one thing, Sure gets HOT inside when it's sunny out! Even in winter. In summer I open all four doors and let it air out for a couple minutes before driving home. Still takes 10 minutes for the AC to cool it off. The aluminum trim on console & doors can BURN Flesh!
Sure wish Volvo would send a few 2.0L turbo-diesel S40's over to the US. Would be the best of all alternatives.

A 2.0L TD would be perfect. I would agree about the dark colored T-tec.....ouch. It looks nice but I do appreciate my light colored interior in the summer.

To be honest a price around what Sana offered will probably be what you as a private seller could get. The prices on our cars have dropped extensively in the last year as you mentioned. I'd say throw Sana an IM and maybe you guys could work out a price that both would be happy about.
I personally would just keep it, as I love my S40 as well and would prefer to sell a kidney before I had to sell or give my baby away.

11,000 would be a good deal. Cars must be cheaper in your areas because i havent seen a S40 with under 75K for that price lol. I have an 06 as well with 6 speed however only 40K miles on it and paid 15k for it from another dealer. Most the S40's around here are higher than BB by about 1-2k, just a thought.

Re: How much for my T5 6-speed? (sanatarium)

I beat you all, muauauuaahahahhahaha! I paid $13,500 for my AWD with 53k, all options that I know of including premium sound, nav, ms design kit, Heico stuff. I did spend 4 months looking for it though. Worth the wait. If only it were a manual, but I don't mind my GT at all.
I think in a private sale you will probably be able to sell it for 12-15k, but it will probably take a while in this market.
Sana, there are a couple for sale here in Utah, there had been a sweet black on black T5 fwd 6 speed, but can't find it now, I had talked my bro into looking into it. The guy was selling it for $11,900, clean title, somewhat ugly 18" blacked out aftermarket wheels, DTP, 45-50k miles (can't remember but it was below 50k) etc. If I find it again I will forward you the info.

Very, we get a lot of people that buy them new from us and we send em up north. Private party makes a big difference in price thats for sure. I dont mind what i paid as my cars interior looks as if its brand new, including underbody, and overall exterior. Get what you pay for i guess.
