My driveshaft is knocking slightly again (they glued it the first time), and I am hearing noise from the suspension in the back on uneven terrain. I tell the dealer these two things. When I pick the car up at the end of the day, they tell me, get this, "No noises will be diagnosed until the vehicle is returned to stock form." They didn't even check the two obvious issues! It is one thing to be mod unfriendly, but I have a freakin UPPER ENGINE MOUNT BUSHING AND A COLD AIR INTAKE and they can't look at the driveshaft and rear suspension???? Who do I call, to get these guys ripped up? The lady I dealt with in the service department was just the bearer of bad news, and claims to agree with me, but I can't let this go! Besides find a new dealer (which I've done, but they're an hour away http://********************/smile/emthdown.gif ) what can I do about this?... I still have the tech's comments on the paperwork... I'd like about 45 seconds in a room alone with this lazy punk. (He could teach me about Volvo noise diagnosis, and I could teach him level 3 unarmed combat)... Any (non-physical) suggestions?

You could give him the shocker you so eloquently display in your picture!

Or you could just call VCNA and complain, not nearly as effective as the first suggestion.

Well they are completely unwarranted on their claims that those two upgrades would cause any type of issues you are complaining about. Try working up their chain of command at the dealership. If a Manager doesnt tell you what you should hear...talk to his manager. If he doesn't tell you...talk to the manager's manager and so on. Thats always one option. Another is to call VCNA as jdog suggested which isn't a bad idea either...they just might be a little slow as all corporations are.

You could get a lawyer involved if you're REALLY wanting to get some fires lit.

Apparently there are no other dealers nearby either.

Next thing you know they are going to deny someone's warranty claim on an engine issue if they simply replace a muffler or the mid-pipe in the exhaust!

Try doing some reading on the Moss-Magnusson federal warranty act, print it out, highlight the area where it states warranty cannot be denied for a problem in an area where mods have not been performed and have no relation to any mod you have performed.
If they continue to have the same position call their bluff and take this to a warranty lawyer.
You WILL win but be prepared for a possible fight.

However, they may read it and if they have any brains at all will decide to look at your car

Don't say I never gave you anything:

Also, make two copies and shove one up the MECHANIC'S rear end, (we've got to stop with this tech crap, all they are are simple mechanics).

Josbro, where are you taking your car if you don't mind me asking? I've spoken with Chris Holt at Lovering in Concord and he gave me the impression they will take on certain modifications (won't touch ECU's while the warranty is still in effect) which leads me to believe they aren't opposed to working on cars that have mods. Especially since the problems you are having aren't related to the mods. Hope you can find a shop that will work with you.

Just curious, do you live off of Knox Marsh Road in Dover? I've seen a S60R flying around in the area a few times and thought I saw one in the new condo complex off that road.

Sawyer Mill right off Central Ave. And I go to Wentworth Motors in Exeter.. well, WENT to Wentworth motors.. phhh I wonder if taking the volvo badge off the back is what is getting in the way of their diagnosis!?

I don't think they were trying to tell me they wouldn't FIX it... they were saying they wouldn't diagnose it... which... basically, I had already done. I TOLD them what the problems were, (so I thought, and I'm pretty confident I'm right, and damn positive about the driveshaft) and they said they won't diagnose it.. I didn't want a diagnosis on the freakin sounds, just look at the damn splines! Unbelivable! Now I'm taking it to someone just to put it on a lift and wiggle the driveshaft, and WHEN I find out I was right, I'm going back down there, and not only am I getting it done, I'm gonna want compensation for driving all over God's creation to get this sh** done! because I have a friggen CAI.. that's beautiful. I want that tech to tell me that crap to my face next time.

Get it in Writing

If a dealership denies warranty coverage, they should be willing to do so in writing. Have the dealer describe the failure which is causing your problem AND how the dealer believes the aftermarket product installed is responsible for the problem. Keep an accurate log of all contacts and correspondence in addressing the warranty denial.

This always seems like a good first step. Get it in writing as to WHY they are not going to even LOOK at your car?!?!

Re: How mod UNfriendly can they GET??? (Kaizai)

This is EXACTLY what is on my work order:

customer states to check clucking tinging noise from rear suspension
technician says vehicle must be back to original equipment before any noises will be diagnosed

customer states to check drive shaft splines, have been glued before and can hear some noise at lower speeds from that area
see job #1

customer states when making a direction change using brakes there is a slight noise from brake pads in calipers
see job #1

Is that just absolute laziness or what??? How do the two MINOR mods that I have affect his ability to diagnose the noises... and nevermind that... because I didn't ask for a diagnosis on the second one... I said "check the driveshaft"... couldn't do it. The higher-ups will recieve a call today. I NEVER asked to be reimbursed for extra driving or effort, I ALWAY tip my wait person bigtime, even if he/she sucks, but this one is NOT gonna happen. I'll post results. Their only recourse is to try and tell me that the added noise from "such an extensively modified vehicle (phhh)" is inhibiting their ability to check perfectly unrelated parts of the car. Pretty sure they don't want to fight that fight
