Re: (chromecarz00)

Number 3, age of vehicle is 2.5 years.
Re: (sanatarium)

still on my first one, car is nearly 4 years old....
Re: (crossie)

i dont know if its anything to do with the brand tho. i have tried all the good conti brands now.. varta, hoppecke, bosch.. all the same..

to be fair, i tap my garmin GPS and ipod from the 12v, so that will contribute to the wear on th ebattery. but still..
I'm on my 3rd, 3 1/2 years with the car. The interval between the 2nd battery & 3rd battery was fairly short, about 8 months and the 2nd battery gave out.
This battery i'm on now was changed last november 2008, so far so good.
Still on my first battery on both my S40s, one is 4 years old and with almost 70k miles.
Re: (Silver T5)

First battery still. Its an 05, but only 30k on the clock.

Still on the original, after over 4 years.

By the looks of the locations of these reports, I'm guessing climate has a lot to do with it. Do you get any of the "afterblow" behavior in your car, where the fan comes on full blast to remove moisture from the a/c, after the car has been shut off? Anything else that comes on or stays on?

Tom.

still on the original battery at almost exactly 4 years

Yeah you guys may want to have a parasitic draw test done to see if you have any strange draw on the battery. Main killer of batteries is from overcharging or long term draw on the batteries which then require a full charge again. Dont really see much alt. problems killing the batteries though.

We dont put anything other than volvo batteries in the S40's being at the dealer but im not gonna say i havent done my fair share which would all be from lot rot

I'm also still on the original...since April 05. I think climate has a lot to do with it also. 62,000 miles and still kickin'

Oh, that won't prove a thing. Have you ever slapped the battery terminal on and seen the spark that jumps? These cars draw power all the time.

The question in my mind is what's different about the car in a tropical/hot climate vs cold. It has to be some function that only kicks in in hot weather, like the afterblow I mentioned e.g.

"Lot Rot"- love it! That's what "transport mode" is all about, on the ship the cars are 99% shut down. Presumably shortly after they arrive the dealers awaken them though, and they start to draw more power from that day. Ready for their test drives and lot reshuffling though.

I had the original on my 2002 A4 with 99K which I sold about a month ago...
Re: How many batteries have you gone through? (Mistral)

Just replaced my OEM battery a 2yrs 10 months. 26,000 miles. That is pretty good for AZ. batteries usually only last 2 years out here. It makes a difference if you keep your car in a garage.
Re: How many batteries have you gone through? (x-omatic)

The cars are only supposed to communicate for 20 minutes tops prior to going into sleep mode in which no car should draw more than .050 amps. After connecting your amp meter in between battery cables for 20 minutes there shouldnt be any draw. If there is you need to start pulling fuses to find the draw, if there is a module that wont shut off and go in to sleep mode then you may have a module fault. None the less i wouldnt say parasitic draw tests dont work they just vary in application to the customer complaint.
2 years with the car and Im on the second battery, this one's acting like it doesn't have much left in it.

The car draws way too much power being turned off. After a long term vacation IDK if I can count on being able to turn it back on.
Re: How many batteries have you gone through? (Mistral)

I had to replace mine just under 4 years. Replaced it with a Kirkland Costco brand. In my case, I think it's the hot Texas weather that lead to my car's battery drain.

Don't batteries have warranty on them? The one I bought says 84 months. Free replacement for the first 36 months.
