With 39,000 miles on what I believe are the original brakes, the R needs some new stoppers. Stopping power is a bit reduced, and I am starting to hear the squealers every now and then (I did have the brake squeal fix done, it is different).
Is changing the pads on the R any more difficult than a normal car? I'd like to do it myself and avoid spending big bucks to the crappy local dealer. I have done brakes before, but only a couple of times.
Also, what has anyone's experience been regarding pads. On our old S40, as well as my father-in-law's S70, the rears went almost as quickly as the fronts.
I won't ask about pads, that has been debated to death!
TIA

Re: How hard to change brakes? (JimLill)

Myself and Wrxownr changed the front pads at a gas station coming from Germany and deadline for a ferry to England......
We were finished in about a half hour with one old set of curtains, one set of HPS pads, one stock vehicle jack and two utility tools. Drinks and rest was included with the stop.
I couldn't believe it could be done till I saw it happen. The brakes are soooo easy! Do the pads yourself if you can!
Kevin

The biggest tip is to push the pistons back into the calipers before you take the old pads out. Just be careful and use a large screwdriver to push the old pads away from the rotor. You won't be able to get the new pads in unless you do this first.

Everyone's right. it's painfully simple to change these brakes. I swapped out the stocks for EBC Greens almost immediately. It took about 15 minutes to do it -- to include bleeding the calipers! I had a tiny bit of squeal but that stopped after about 100 miles. These things stop the car on a dime!
B
