I'm still looking to find a worthy successor S60R to my trusty old 854T. If I get one, I'm going to have to modify the end of my driveway to enable a plain (no body kit) S60R to use it without scraping. That's why I'm not looking for an S60R with a body kit.
However, one of the available 2006 caRs that matches all of my other criteria has a full body kit that came from the factory. I know that many such cars are running around without their front winglets, and are slightly visually imbalanced as a result. So my questions are:
How big a deal is is to remove the front winglets and also remove the side sills and rear wing and rear lower panels? Would doing so leave ([m]any visible) scars (like, say, holes in the trunk lid)? Were any standard body parts omitted by the factory when the car was built with the full body kit?

Could be wrong but I believe the sport kit uses all the same mounting points as the standard trim does as well. You'll definately have no problems selling/trading the body kit for oem pieces - in fact, if you do, I'm possibly interested in trading parts... does it also have the rear trunk sport spoiler?

Re: How completely removable is a S60R full factory body kit? (wdodge52)

Very straight forward to remove and swap OEM pieces over and it will not leave scars. Uses the same mounting points.
Side Skirts: There are a bunch of rivets, 3M tape and clips holding them in, you will need to remove them all, buy new ones and source a new stock side skirts to replace the Sport Kit. Install is reverse of the removable process.
Rear skirt, the 05+ rear skirt is held on by clips and revits, pops right off, find a stock piece to replace and you are good to go.
Spoiler: No holes, clamps and 3M tape.
Hope that helps.
Henry

I believe it's fairly easy to remove as stated. If you buy an S60 R with a body kit & decide to remove it, please let me know! Color is not important. I'd be more than happy to buy the kit from you.

Re: How completely removable is a S60R full factory body kit? (dark blue)

Thanks for the replies.
It sounds like I'd need to obtain standard body parts (not sure how many or which ones, especially in front) if I removed the body kit. That kinda sucks, but at least it sounds like I could remove the rear wing w/o needing body+paint repair (thanks, Henry), so if I do get that one then probably a swap is what's called for...

Re: How completely removable is a S60R full factory body kit? (Turbo Country)

I just got an 07 S60R in Aug 09.; with body kit. It needs to be driven VERY slowly at an angle when you exit drive way ramps. But with the steeper drive way exit some shopping plazas have, you still will scrape the bottom edge of the front skirt spoilers.
This morning I took my car to Rusnak Volvo out at Pasadena, CA. Some one there drove it a bit too hard and cause one of the front spoiler to come loose a bit. Good thing mine were held on by a bolt, a rivet, and some double sided tapes. The shop guys took it off to get painted.
Just make sure whoever puts on your body kit doesn't glue them! They did that to my mechanic's S60R and he destroyed his bumper.
As an alternative, may be you can leave the front spoiler out. That is the only thing I seem to scrape so far (knock on wood).
But I just love the look with front spoiler on too much! Good luck, you will love the car once the torque limiter goes off after 3rd gear (please correct me if I'm wrong, R veterans) while the engine screams as you approach 6000RPM WHILE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TURN!

Re: How completely removable is a S60R full factory body kit? (dark blue)

OK/duh -- now I know what a PM (IM?) looks like (when it's blocked, and I notice that). I intend to make private email replies to those who've contacted me, thanks.
But here's more info for all:
Some of the caRs that I'm interested in are in the NorthEast. I thought I preferred one w/o the body kit, but now that I know that there is some real interest in swapping panels (or buying the body kit), a body-kitted magic blue one seems more desirable than it did before...
If all goes well this week (end-of-month), some increasingly-desperate seller is going to accept a low offer from me.
Since I don't think I can get an S60R with body kit in my driveway, I'd rather not bring one home that has a body kit. So IFF I get a body-kitted S60R, my preference would be to not have it shipped here; I'd prefer to fly to the NE, and drive it home, STOPPING ALONG THE DRIVE BACK TO COLORADO TO SWAP BODY PANELS WITH SOMEONE'S NON-BODY-KIT S60R! A real R odyssey...
That would mean having everything arranged in (not much) advance, like a multiple-donor organ transplant. Some trusted body/paint shop somewhere would be the hospital, ready to go to work... If that's possible, I'm hoping that the body kit has sufficient value such that the grateful recipient would (gladly?) pay for the swap (including all likely necessary unmounting/repainting/remounting).
Of course, that's all still a big hypothetical dream; even if I do get a body-kitted caR and have it shipped here, a front winglet removal and subsequent swap could always still be arranged... (I'm not sure I want to sell the body kit and be stuck having to buy/paint standard panels, but I have no idea what the numbers are; it'd just be so much sweeter to get a caR home the way I want it to be -- and only need to modify the driveway.)

You're probably not going to like the quality of the paint under there. The kit tends to leave a lot of lines where it meets the rest of the car. Something is very wrong with your driveway.

Re: How completely removable is a S60R full factory body kit? (Turbo Country)

I didn't heard back from the salesman of the dark blue body-kitted one as expected, so I called 'cold' and asked if they had an R for sale and was told that they do have one but someone had put a deposit down on it, but they weren't sure how solid the deal was.
Anyway I'm still looking at caRs with body kits with less disdain than I did before this thread, though some are missing their front winglets.... (one is black, which might make some people here happier)
Thanks/sorry Tom; there are some very nice red ones out there, but my previous car was arrest-me red, and I think I've probably received enough unwanted attention to last a lifetime. So painting would almost certainly have to be part of any potential swap with your car. I'll hang on to your gmail addresses...

Re: How completely removable is a S60R full factory body kit? (xman03)

Does a full factory body kit consist of 6 pieces (2 winglets, 2 side skirts, rear 1 lower and 1 spoiler) or am I still missing something?

Quote, originally posted by xman03 »

You're probably not going to like the quality of the paint under there. Would that be under just the front and rear (hopefully only visible to the pavement) or side skirts and rear spoiler too? I hope that's not an issue on every car/installation...

Quote, originally posted by xman03 »

Something is very wrong with your driveway.

Re: How completely removable is a S60R full factory body kit? (vw_mkv)

hmm so i was thinking... what are the chances of me contacting a dealership that has an R with a body kit on it and asking them if they'd be willing to swap parts for a lil bit of monayyy, or if they'd just gather all their sales associates and laugh at me
