Re: hood insulation (p0cket penguins)

Mine is gone. I just did it because of looks. I would have had to cut holes in it for the hood vents anyway.

the hood is not painted underneath and you need to be carefull of the effects of the heat coming through the hood on the exterior paint.

The hood blanket serves an important purpose - don't remove it.
It acts as a smothering blanket in the case that you have an engine fire. I would prefer retaining these passive safety features on my Volvo... There may even be a remote likelihood of insurance coverage denial if they knew your blanket was missing!

I was just reading in the S40 forum about a guy whose car caught on fire: http://forums.swedespeed.com/zerothread?id=59716
The body shop actually did paint mine underneath. I still have the blanket. Guess I should look into getting those holes cut.

the blanket is ridiculously easy to take on and off. I would leave it on Frank when I was not at shows and such just for the peace of mind.

Re: (R_Rated)

at the davis vcoa show last week(?) i asked kevin "the underlord" about the lack of an insulator blanket with a highly modified engine. i think i remember him saying is was a show day.
it seems volvo does everything for a purpose. i tend to trust their designs and move with modifications carefully. i wonder if this is a fault.

Re: (frankhoffy)

I had the body shop cut the hole in the blanket for me. I just didn't like how it rubbed a spot in the freshly painted pipe.
