Hi guys;

Hoping someone here can be of help. I have an 8 year old Chamberlain 1/3 HP chain drive garage door opener and I've been trying to "train" the homelink button in my new V50. I'm pretty sure that I'm following the instructions pretty faithfully but I'm not having any luck.

Could it be that my Chamberlain unit has rolling codes? (no, I don't have the manual, would you keep it for 8 years?

) Their website is useless (http://www.chamberlain-diy.com/diy04/home/ - I can't find any info about discontinued products.

Anyone with a Chamberlain unit they've successfully trained??

Did you find a "learn" button on the Chamberlain? If so, then it should have rolling codes.

Another thing to consider (per my experience), how many remotes are programmed with your Chamberlain unit? Some garage door opener only allows a small number of device programmed to it.

Happened to my when I got my last S40. I couldn't program the door whatsoever, since we've had a number of cars in and out (traded in, or leased out). And no, I didn't forget to erase the codes from those cars. It's just the garage door opener still "thinks" that it's still programmed to that certain car. My Genie only allows 8 remotes at once, so I had to erase the whole memory and start programming all the remotes and homelinks with our current fleet.

One thing I've found with Homelink systems, both in my car and in two others I've programmed for family members, is that if I didn't go through the reset procedure in the car first --holding down the outer two buttons for 20 seconds -- none of the buttons would learn any remote codes. In other words, I couldn't get the buttons to learn my remote, regardless of whether they were programmed previously, without first performing the reset.

There is a small red button on the head-unit, but it says it is to reset the remotes? Nowhere does it say it is for "training" ? I was alos under the impression that the "rolling-code" feature was something usually found on higher-end units?

What is the model number of the garage door opener?

I remember when I programmed mine I had to do a reset as Mullman stated and I had to follow the instructions to the letter - the first couple of times I screwed it up.

The button labeled "reset-remote" on the head unit was indeed the training button. It probably helped that I first did a reset on the homelink in the car, then re-did the training procedure by pushing the buttons on the remote and the sun-visor simultaneously. Then I climbed up on the step-ladder and pushed the training button on the head unit and then ran to the car to repush the homelink button. Only took one push of the homelink button to get it to work.
