I just installed my 55w ddm slim kit which i ordered directly from DDM. With the lights in the on position when i fire up the cars the lights turn on perfectly but than flicker out after about 30 seconds and i get the bulb failure message. I do have the BOW system but it does not look like the one pictured on their website or sharphid.com, could this be the issue or do i need to try the battery relay harness??

Re: HID HELP (martiinhasfeet)

Sorry to hear your problems, do a search and hopefully you will find some info that will be helpful.
On a different note, do you have any pics of your car? I am interested in seeing the gunmetal grille and badges...Thanks!

Do you have the universal connectors that go to the bulbs and to the ballasts? If so could they be installed backwards?

What are the Universal connectors?? All the connectors are male and female plugs which i think are the right way, that was the first thing i checked and i don't think any were backwards. If im not mistaken each piece only fits with one other so they should all be connected right

Yeah they are male and female but some ive seen can be inserted reverse and not have the correct wires connected together.

I would check the numerous HID threads and see what others have encountered or contact sharphid. I know this is relatively common complaint however i personally have had no issues with mine.

I find it funny that our cars are all so different even though they are the same in theory. I haven't had any flickering problems and I haven't gotten my DRLs disabled yet. I am super excited and thankful that some of you guys are looking into the HID issues so hopefully I don't ever have to change my story.

Same story except only my passengers side will even try to go on.

then

Low beam failure message this whole time...
And the Bulb Out cancelers from sharpHID do not look very promising... I mean I can live with the little message.

i think ddm may have sent me the wrong BOW version. It does not look anything like the type 3 they have pictured on their site or sharphid. Does yours look like the one from the site or is it slightly different?

I got the type 4 BOW harness too. Did you get the BOW harness replaced with the correct one? John is sending me the right one.

I seriously do not think the "correct" BOW harness would make a difference. Since the ballasts draw less current than the factory bulb, the computer detects that and think that the filament might be damaged (thus less current), so gives u a warning. It should still provide enough voltage to drive the ballast with that warning (less light output might be better than no light at all). My car draws minimal current via the battery harness (main current draw directly from battery), and a constant on is given. Kit could not work with DRLs enabled though, think my version has the same bulb for DRL same as the headlights and a lesser voltage was used to power the DRLs IIRC, 2nd hand info from last owner, so correct me if I'm wrong, so HIDs were flickering prior to DRLs being disabled.
On the other hand, the last owner switched to a S60 when selling me his S40. His car actually could not work with 55W HIDs (and he didn't want to test more). He tried 55W with and without the BOW and computer shut down the power supply to the headlights after flickering for a while. Only the 35W worked with the battery harness for him. YMMV.
FYI, flicker HIDs could also be due to a faulty ballast.

Re: (fone)

When DRLs are disabled, doesn't the function of the "on" position on the headlight switch stay the same as with the DRLs, so if the HIDs don't work in the "on" position with the DRLs enabled, disabling them wouldn't make a difference? Or am I missing something?
I also want to note that if the key is turned to the 2 position (engine not started), the lights work fine.

I'm not sure as I was not the one who did up my own set up, just changed it from 35w to 55w. The last owner took it to a mechanic to get the HIDs fixed and all I know now is that the first time he tried, he complained that he was charged for labor and the mechanic returned the car saying that the lights flicker, so HID is not and option. So he got the DRLs disabled at the dealer, then brought to another mechanic to fix the HIDs. I'm not very sure how or when DRLs are on btw, got the car with DRLs disabled. These details are what I heard from my not so car savvy friend, as you can see, he just pays a mechanic to do the work for him (so descriptions may not be that accurate technically).
IIRC, the last owner's 'new' (06 or 07 i think), S60 also has the same characteristics, the HIDs work fine without engine on, with engine on, it could not work.
