Now that I drive my R everyday, I discover that I love my R more and more all the time.

He goes by Rolf (Nav male voice is so much better than the female voice) and he's been pretty reliable. Some minor niggles, but things have been fixed well. Moreover, there's really nothing like him on the road.

He's a wagon, which means he can carry a bunch of cargo, almost as much as my MDX. He's practical for a young family. Yet he's fast and aglie. Takes care of a traffic with a smooth downshift and a spurt forward. Zip zip on the way to work, traffic dispatched with nary a thought. When someone cuts me off (no, this never happens) the big Brembos haul off the speed with little drama.

Sure, he's not perfect. The heat soak in the summer isn't great. Electronics are a bit dated. But it's stylish (I still look back when I leave him), comfortable, the gauges are the best I've ever seen, the seats are fabulous, and unique. There IS no direct replacement.

I do not feel like I was had. I do not feel like I was buying an M3 and got a Hyundai instead. I do not feel like anyone lied to me. I got exactly what I thought I was getting and more.

Yes, I love my R, and he loves me right back. I'm so glad I bought it, I really want another one.

I agree, we all bitch and moan,

but these cars are great for what they are

and to top it all, now they are inexpensive too!!

(but you still need a fat wallet to maintain/repair it)

Re: Hi, I love my R (Needsdecaf)

I say "we" because it's our family car-- it's a rare trip when I don't have at least one of the kids, else the whole family, and since I volunteer at the grade school I'm often toting a wagon-load of 5th graders to the art museum, a play in the city, or some archaeological dig.

So "we" tried the female voice on the NAV system and none of us liked her -- she's kind of a "beeache" ... if you catch my drift.

We all like "Henry" (everyone in my 5th grade class knows this famous historical figure, who founded a renowned school of navigation), even though he has a thing about witches...

Henry is a good navigator, but he's very superstitious. w

Whenever we're about to stop he says: " .... WITCHES ON THE RIGHT !!!! " or "... WITCHES ON THE LEFT !!! "

... which the kids find seriously funny ...

And Henry gets cross if we don't do exactly as he says:

"Turn RIGHT !"

"Calm down Henry -- we aren't going on that way today -- I know a faster way."

"MAKE A U - TURN .... IF IT'S SAFE !!!!"

"Relax Henry -- everything will be fine."

"I SAID MAKE A U - TURN YOU IDIOT .... MAKE A RIGHT, THEN MAKE ANOTHER RIGHT, THEN MAKE A RIGHT TURN .... NOW!!!"

He actually does seem kind of frantic if I miss a direction... emotional even...

so every time I have a wagon-load of kids the first thing they ask me is:

"Can you please wake-up Henry the Navigator Mr. Pete ??? "

We love our Arrrrrgh http://********************/smile/emlove.gif

+1 boys.

I do the look-back all the time, pat her on the dash after a great drive, and marvel at the total package Volvo put together foR us.

It's a sweet ride.

No, but we both (wife and I separately) loved his character.

Wouldn't trade my R for anything else out there right now. I appreciated it even more after spending a couple hours in the woods trying to get my Blazer back on its wheels. Those comfy seats make a 2 hour drive worth while.

I just wish the R could take half the abuse of my trail rider. But I have a new angle gear at 75k, so I think I'm set for a while!

you neglected to metion that his AWD will go out for no reason too....

Nah, that was Rolf's way of telling me I should have listened to Jim Lill and others and run him in FWD on the Dyno.
