First off, I'm not too happy with the deal my local dealership gave me. I like the salesguy, but I think his hands are somewhat tied. He knows I'm a loyal customer, but it sure doesn't seem like they're trying to work with me.
He found a car almost exactly what I would want. It's in Cincinnati. I'm in Indianapolis. Here's the specs
'06 S60R MT, sonic blue/nordkap, 18" (I actually wanted 17") bright silver pegs, sirius prep, climate and premium packages. Lists at $43,625. My local dealer knocked it down to $41,125. For the lease I wanted which was $0 down, 15K/year, 3 year lease he quoted me $673/month! After talking to guys on the site here I though that was a bit high. Then he ran the numbers with a 4 year lease with $1000 down and that dropped it to around $620/month. Still not in the range I was expecting.
Plus, they only offered me $19,500 for my '04 S60 T5. I figured I wouldn't get much out of them for that car. They gave me the usual fees to certify it...bla blah. I will not sell it to them if I do this deal.
So, I'm going to contact Volvo of Cincinnati directly on Monday and see what they can do for me. If they give me a number I like, then I'll put my T5 up for sale. Of course, I'd put it up here on swedespeed first and hopefully it would find a good home.
So, for now I'm keeping my T5 unless somebody can find me my sonic blue S60R in a better price range for a lease. What do you guys think?

I think they are trying to milk you. You should be able to get a deal in the area of $1K down and ~$500 month or so with 12k miles/year, especially this time of year.

Re: Here's what my dealer offered me for the '06 sonic blue S60R MT (soledoc)

The car is probably a blown deal on a customer spec'd car (Sonic Blue, MT, options, 18s etc.)
You've got an additional middle man with the stocking vs selling dealer and you've indicated a preference and eagerness for this particular car.
Neither dealer is willing to take a loss (why would they?) and trying to do an end-run around your local dealer probably isn't going to get it down much for you either.
The OH dealer will probably just quote/honor the deal your IN dealer is offerring (they've probably already discusssed it) and not undercut the other unless they're really hungry and a bit off.

Re: Here's what my dealer offered me for the '06 sonic blue S60R MT (soledoc)

the best I found was a sonic blue/gobi MT, 17", climate, ?premium? sirius prep? in Ft. Wayne, IN (about 100 miles from me). Nothing I could find in OH (other than the one in Cincy), none in MI or IL. Man...some of these volvo sites are horrible. They give you stock pictures (bad enough) but then it's not even an R. Plus, half of them don't even list the transmission type!!
I'm not in a hurry to do this deal...so I'll keep looking. But if anybody sees a car like I"m looking for, give me a hollar. Or, if anybody is interested in my T5, let me know. The exact specs I'd want would be:
1. sonic blue S60R
2. manual
3. nordkap
4. 17" wheels
5. sirius prep
6. climate package
7. premium package
8. IAQS (if that's even an option on an R...can't remember)

Why not just order one?.. unless it is too late for the '06 (in which case, what about '07). If you order it, you will know the exact price beforehand and you will get exactly what you want... maybe even faster than hoping for your exact specs to pop up.
Re: Here's what my dealer offered me for the '06 sonic blue S60R MT (adalcanto)

Yea, I could do that....just thought I might get a better price on an existing car on the lot already. I didn't ask my salesguy to run the numbers on on an '07, which it would be, but I suppose I could do that. The down side to that would be that it would be at the very beginning of the '07 MY and the deals would likely not be that good so I doubt they could beat the awful $673/month quote he already gave me.
The search continues.....

If I am correct, and someone will let us know if not , a lease would be more favorable on a new model year than old.
You are looking at what I have moreless. I believe I told you already that I am in the $550 range with a grand down.
I got my car in the beginning of April. I do not know how much rates, residuals, etc changed since then...but I found better deals out there on better stocked cars than mine. I just HAD TO HAVE sonic blue.
I was finding cars the same to more sticker priced for as little as $500 month for what terms I was looking for.
For what it is worth, I had worked a deal out for around $500 monthly on a _fully_ loaded titanium gray/sport kit/graphite pegs/nordcap R. It was stickering around $48K. If you are into the dark side...this car was a steal!

Re: Here's what my dealer offered me for the '06 sonic blue S60R MT (Eric_H)

Yes, I do own my current T5 on a 5 year buy. I've been paying on it for 2 years (to date...took delivery on 5-8-04). I'm going to do more hunting today for a nice '06 sonic blue out there. I know I'm getting hosed by my local dealer and I'm about to be done with them except for service. they also sell jags, Land rover, and used to also be with porsche/audi until that dealership opened their own shop (all owned by one guy...who has about 20 car dealerships in town).

With what they offered you for yout T5 then you should be able to purchase the car for less than the lease depending on your debt to trade-in ratio.

Re: (Cementups)

How do you figure? On a 60 month buy, say at 6.0% the payments would still be more per month than a 3 year lease with 15K/ $1000 or less down. But I suppose I could ask them to run the numbers...can't hurt to ask.

Good luck on your search!
FYI, Volvo will be announcing new programs later on today, and will be effective tomorrow (5/9/06), so there may be a better lease deal right around the corner.
One thing that is very important that I didn't see you mention: do you owe more on your T5 than what the dealer is giving you on trade-in?
If that's the case (you're negative), then they are rolling in that negative equity. And trust me, negative equity will make your lease payment skyrocket, especially if you're putting zero down.
We can't really advise you one way or the other if we don't know whether or not you've got negative equity in your T5. Let us know.

Re: Here's what my dealer offered me for the '06 sonic blue S60R MT (R Salesman)

The dealer offered me $19,500 and the payoff is $25,000. The numbers they gave me were NOT including my T5 trade in. I am pretty much resigned to selling the car on my own if I do this deal. No way I'd give the dealer that car and be over 5 grand in the hole!
It seems like offering $25,000 (at least) for my car is reasonable on a private party sale if I decide to go that route. Believe me, I'm not going to take a bath on this deal if it doesn't make sense financially. I can just keep my T5 a bit longer...but if I have to spend a little to get my sonic blue R, I'll do it.
I'll be curious to see what the new incentives are that come out today. Thanks for the help.

You might try Byers Volvo in Columbus OH. Ask for Mark Geeding. 1-866-711-8106.
He has this black one listed now for $36K (Same deal I got last month)
http://www.autobase.com/cgi/info.exe?bc=2126986
I don't see a sonic in stock, but he may be able to work a transfer. I didn't do a trade so I have no idea what they might offer. I do know that I was pleased with the sale there.
Pat
