Fellow XC90 enthusiasts,
Also posted in the R Forum......
I know this is a Volvo forum; I own and drive an XC90 and frequent the forums regularly. This is not about a Volvo or an XC90, but instead about an S60R driver, my nephew. I'm asking for your support to help him get a makeover of his '72 Chevelle from Optima Batteries. Eric is a Captain in the Army, currently serving in Richmond, VA after returning from a year in Iraq. After returning home with the Volvo S60R that he purchased when stationed in Europe, he decided he needed to add a real American muscle car to his stable. He bought the Chevelle and has been doing small incremental upgrades, at the same time he bought his first house, so budget has been sparse. I spoke with him today and it seems he is in strong contention to win this makeover, but is convinced that his strongest competition is a kid with a Neon that appears to be very computer savvy and generating a lot of votes within his Web family. So, I thought I might try to do the same.
Here is the email I received from Eric that contains the directions to vote. His is the only Chevelle in the group of five and I think you'll recognize him by the essay that he wrote.
Dear Friends and Family,
Recently I entered a contest to win a $50,000 vehicle make-over for my ’72
Chevelle. I submitted a picture and essay and was chosen as one of five
finalists. If I win, my car will receive a $50,000 makeover and will be
used in advertisements for Optima batteries, as well as be displayed at the
SEMA show in Las Vegas and be featured on Dream Car Garage on Speed TV.
There will be an online vote from 10-31 July. As I understand it, you can
vote once a day. Please pass this on to anybody else you might think would
be interested in voting for me and help me win the grand prize. Thank you
so much!!! Please go to the following link:
http://www.optimafullride.com

-Eric

We have since determined that you cannot vote once a day, only one vote from each IP address is accepted. I'm hoping that the Volvo crowd will take up arms for one of our own and vote for his worthy example of the American performance car heritage to win the contest. There are no Volvos in the running, so hopefully there will be little temptation to vote for others . Thanks in advance for your support. If any of you have access to other Internet boards and are interested enough to promote this elsewhere, we'd certainly appreciate it. I'll let you know the results when the competition is complete!
And, you don't have to be American to join in the support. All you R drivers know the pleasures of driving them, and as Eric's daily driver, his R is highly treasured. We'd like to see his love of American muscle iron rewarded as well!
Chuck
