As the title says, my 98 V70 shakes and vibrates violently when coming to a stop. Just replaced all the rotors and pads but it's still there. This happens sporadically and cannot find a pattern as to what triggers it.
Any thoughts?

did you clean and relube the caliper slider pins with the proper brake grease during the brake job?

Yes.
Vibration happens once in awhile but enough to cause a concern. It feels like the whole car shakes emanating from tranny tunnel. It happened before the brake job and continues to do so afterwards. I drive the car daily and it happens maybe once or twice a week when coming to a full stop. No CEL.

Re: (GG820)

If the rotors are new and true, then my next thoughts would be:
loose lug bolts
damaged/worn bushings or spring perches
engine mounts
Considering that you think you're hearing this noise from the "transmission tunnel" (on a FWD car!), I'd check the top engine mount (torque bushing) first, especially since it's so easy to get to.

Can also try popping it into neutral when braking to identify/eliminate a tranny issue.
I just had my rotors and pads done, & one caliper about two months ago (At Adria here in Ottawa). Brakes were smooth, but now getting the shakes again, I following breaking in procedures, not impressed. I have recently noticed a wheel vibration at high speed (need balancing). I only drive it once a week or so now (I bus to work), and once a month on the highway (if that)...so I'm thinking a tire imbalance may have warped a rotor, or caused some sort of uneven wear.
Might replace rotors again with slotted ones this fall. Will be doing the BBK in a couple of years when I can afford larger summer & winter wheels & tires.

Re: (rothe)

I checked the top engine mount and there's a bit of play, but since I don't have anything to compare it to, I'm not sure. The ABS light has come on as well. The vibrations are loud and violent. Like my car is having an orgasm... LOL

You might have a bad caliper.
I had one on one of my cars but it still braked straight and true, but it displayed other odd symptoms.

Is that what you were experiencing when you had a bad caliper? I was attributing it to the ABS light being lit, but your caliper theory makes sense as well, and potentially cheaper than the ABS. Please elaborate if you can. Thanks!

Re: (GG820)

Okay, it seems like my vibrations are gone to a minimum. I had my calipers rebuilt and the extreme vibrations are gone (Thanks JRL). We found a cause for the minor ones (when I put my car in reverse, it vibrates a bit) which we determined to be the engine mount and tranny mount.
Thanks to all that responded. You guys rock!
