Hi, I'm new on this forum... I'm surfing on the net looking for some help to choose the right ECU upgrade for my new volvo car (V50 1.6D DRIVe)..
...It's hard to find some review about volvo cars.... audi has ABT, Mercedes-Benz has AMG... Volvo seems to have HEICO.... It's right?
I've found BSR, RICA and HEICO....but which is the best compromise between engine life and power upgrade?
Just a note:
...in Italy upgrade ECU invalidate warranty... so I need a system by which upgrade and downgrade the ECU when it's needed... ..a question: ECU keeps a track of theese upgrade/downgrade events??
I hope you can help me to solve these troubles....
Re: Help Please... BSR RICA or HEICO?? (fazzib)

not that familar with 1.6D upgrades (love the 1.6D emblem though) you can go back and forth with a softloader, but the dealer will know you did something. even when setting it back.
I'd personally be happy with the stock 1.6D and the 5l/100km it gets and concentrait on stuff like handling and styling.
good luck modding

Re: Help Please... BSR RICA or HEICO?? (V50_T5)

Thanks to all... I've solved some doubts...
...the last one...which kind of upgrade between BSR, RICA and HEICO is the best compromise between engine life, performance and flexibility in upgrade/downgrade?

P.S.
It's not a problem (I think) if the dealer view that ECU has been resetted.. basically the important thing is that I can hide the upgrade process.. if he can't view upgrade he can't say anithing...
...I don't like this kind of thoughts...but Italy is a strange country... you must learn to avoid obstacles if you want survive...
Just 2 little pearls:
- I've bought a little boat (about 8 meters) some time ago. It's a Bayliner (USA brand). The engine has some problems but hull is still ok, so I'm looking for a new engine... In USA the engine costs about 8000 euro (+ 1000 euro to ship it in Italy + VAT (20%)) ...In Italy it costs about 20000 euro... it's the same engine... with no difference...
- The best novel however is the conversion about LIRA and EURO.... 1euro=1936.27lire so 1000lire=0,50euro
Before the euro era you can bought 1litre of milk for 1000lire...but a beautiful day we woke up and found euro instead of lira... it was a good thing for ours economic stability... but we went to the milkman and found a surprise... 1litre of milk=1euro... double???? we bought the milk and come back home to look to pay-packet... it was 2000000lire before euro...but now.... it is 1000euro... WOW! It's the same... so a question pop up in our mind... how it was possible??? ...we haven't found an answer until this time...
...I think we have a mission in Italy...

For all the scare talk around the Euro, after everything is said and done, it is just an issue of unit conversion. There is no reason for milk to become more expensive just because you change units, unless a small group of producers collude to take advantage of the situation.
How about a product where there is more competition, like airline fares? Did they go up in price too?
[Sorry for hijacking the thread with an economics lesson]

...probably... in Italy "competition" is an unknown word...
..another example... the same Yamaha home theatre 5.1 system
Italy ==> 400euro
USA ==> 200$
...in Spain airline pays for airport service more than Italy (here we are foxy and offer discount price for airport service to companies) but airline fares are more expensive... ???
...we have a mission...get rich someone...

Don't forget about MTE http://www.mteworks.com/about_us.html tunes with or without IPD's softloader http://www.ipdusa.com/fi-6/ .You didn't mention these so I don't know if you are aware of them but IPD is very highly regarded in the Volvo community as is MTE for their tunes which IPD utilizes depending on exchange rates IPD may save you some $$$ and they do ship international.IPD has a forum here and sponsors Swedespeed http://forums.swedespeed.com/zeroforum?id=52 Lucky and Scott Hart are great to deal with .For the record I'm in no way affiliated with IPD just a happy customer
Edit .774 euro currently equals $1.00 US which would be 1,002.88 euro FWIW.

Thank you very much fazzib
About compitition and prices, Europe as a whole is becoming a very expensive place to live in, you should come to Slovakia and see the insanely high prices were the minimum monthly wages start at 300€/month.
Swedespeed is awesome, but you have to admit that US/EU car specs tend to differ, and the 1.6Drive and 2.0D are unknown engines in the US, I don't know if you know about http://www.volvoforums.org.uk , feel welcome to join us there also, after all, it's a europian volvo forum and most cars discussed over there are diesels, i'm sure someone from overthere will help you out with your ECU remap inquiery. I myself am planning a BSR remap on my 2.0D after 3months, because that's when my warranty expires can't wait!
