...to get an S40 T5 over the stupid subaru STI.
she is only turning 21 next month and she has had subarus since she started driving, including her current 2005 impreza RS. she really wants to get an STI when her lease is up. i tried convincing her that STI are little-boy racer cars and that an S40 T5 is still a quick car with AWD but MUCH more well-rounded. she likes the look of them and i think i just need to get her behind the wheel of one to prove it. i love the style, but for my personal taste, its a little small.
help me out guys.

The STI is a fantastic car. The aftermarket support is great. I almost wish I got one when I smashed up my WRX instead of the T5 I have.
Maybe you can push her towards the Legacy GT (Spec B?) as a stepping stone to an S40?

Ok Phuz......here goes:
1) No moonroof availability on an STI
2) Summer tires so she'll have to shell out $$$ for winter rims and replacement OEM's before the lease is up
Otherwise, I would go for a Leggy GT.

The STi is a far superior car in terms of motor, power, suspension, and AWD system.
She should get the STi rather than the S40.
Now if you want a wagon (with a manual tranny) then the V50 is the way to go...

I like the STI too, and the AWD would be better BUT......what I don't like about most subaru's (particularly the impreza's) is it still feels like a cheapish car inside. with the exception of the seats it's just like being in a civic or corrola. The Volvo feels so much more refined and it's nice to look at.
I know that's not a HUGE help but hope it helps!
Edit: and why can't Subaru make the rear seats fold down in their impreza's? Stupidest thing ever, only way to get that is to get the wagon!?
Also, the Impreza's are still kinda ugly. It's funny, they change the front of them almost every year but it's almost like they keep trying to add makeup in the hopes that is somehow becomes more attractive .
My favorite is the old 2 doors but they only came here as 2.5RS's so they were kinda slow, but looked REALLY good.

Re: (quick)

The two cars are too different IMO....she needs to decide what type of car she wants first then decide on the car itself.
The STi is a much more sporty, rough, no apologies type of car while the S40 T5 is less sporty (but not dull) and much more comfortable. The STi is likely going to be more reliable over the long run and will likely hold it's value better as well.

Re: help me convince my girlfriend.... (phuz)

My two cents: If she really wants speed and performance, she's gonna get the STi (probably more speeding tickets, too. She might as well paint a bullseye on the car for the cops). No one here is going to say the s40 is a better performance car.
That said, I agree with alot of said above: the STI still has a mid-90s japanese interior that can't hold a candle to the design of the S40. The rear wing on the STI is just plain hideous. The hood scoop is obnoixiously large. My opinion is that for style, the S40 is one of the best looking cars available today. And still a good little performance car.
Also, she must drive stick. If she is going to spend a lot of time in traffic or doing city driving, she'll find that the S40 clutch is about ten times nicer than the STI's. I do almost no traffic-free highway driving, and I can't imagine how tired my left leg would be due to the super-stiff "racing" clutch of the STI.

If she is going to put good use of the STi performance wise, then get it. If she's getting it just to drive a car, then it is not for her. I also think the s40 fits a girl female more than an STI.

Sti is junk. Go with the S40 but if max performance is what she craves tell her evo.
Evo>sti

If she wants an STI, then you could try to talk her into a stripped down S60R, for a little more. The STI is still faster, but it depends on how you want people to look at you.
