I bought a second hand DICE unit and it came with a copy of VIDA 2014D.

I stole my daughter's old laptop which is running Windows 7. The installation program started up and then yelled at me that it didn't like my version of Internet Explorer.

Any suggestions on how to proceed?

What version? Should work with versions 8-11...

Okay. Now I have a fresh install of Win 7 and upgraded IE to version 9. VIDA install finally ran and ran. So VIDA is installed but I can't get past the login screen.

In my experience VIDA doesn't like Net Framework version beyond 3.5 ... But that won't make it not load up and log in though...

Can't get past the login in what way? There are numerous threads and queries about not being able to input characters into the login field. Generally, if that is the proble , it can be fixed with the update files.

It is the problem that I can't input characters into the login field. Also, what is a good username?

Usernames that work are usually "admin" or "1". The fix for not being able to input has varied, but I've fixed it with more than one installation on my computers by installing the updates and license patches available on Roxanaschram's thread HERE
If you still have issues, search for the problem in this forum. There are different cures, it seems.

Ok. Thanks guys. You've given me more things to look at this evening after work.

Thirty years ago I viewed dealing with problems like this as fun. The older I get, the more I understand why people just go an buy a new computer at the drop of a hat.

If you can't log in, you most likely don't have the correct patch installed.

Seems to me that the way to get the patch to work best is to place the patch exe file in the VIDA directory and execute it from there. Maybe I'm one of the few, but if the VIDA is installed in a non-default directory, the patch may have trouble installing properly. Old partitioning habits never die!

Well, it's running now.

I tried the VM route but the VM program wouldn't run on my laptop. So I did tons of reading, found the bit about changing the license date and I think it's going to work now.

My thanks to everyone who responded.

That means you weren't using an update to date patch. All the patches I provide are good and self installing.
