So, today after sitting outside all day (15F) when I started the '96 854 Turbo, the CEL is lit and the car won't idle unless I give the car some throttle! I checked all fluids and their fine, and nothing is smoking. Could this be an O2 Sensor going? I'll take the car to the mechanic to pull codes, but is it safe to drive? Temps are all good, and only the CEL is going off.

TIA!!!

Well, my 854T has been in the shop since Weds, and the mechanic said the computer told him to replace the mass air flow sensor ($230 or so). He replaced that today, and it was instantly blown. He said the codes are indicating some voltage spike in part of the ECU, something like 4V over spec.

Does anyone know what this could indicate? I'm not too keen on needing a new ECU ($1k plus?), but I suppose I can get a junkyard one and splurge on an IPD unit if I'm bracing for a huge repair bill. My mechanic said he's willing to go the IPD route if the ECU's bad.

So, does anyone around here have experience with these problems?

thx folks!
