Hello there,
How could I be so naive?? that for the last 8 months I was chasing a water leak some where from the outside of my car, per Volvo Dealer, and Toyota Dealer *where I bought the car. Only to find out that it was coolant on my carpet the whole time.
Heater core, slow leak, have been topping off coolant every 45-50 days since OCT of 2005. Im not super car savy, but because of this thing I am becoming so. Tech recommended an additative to slow the leak for now because I am short on the money it costs to replace the core at the moment, but not for long. Then a friend of mine suggested I replace the Heater Core myself. I can really only find pics, help with S70's and 850's. Wanted to know if anyone out there had 1 or all of the following.
1. Advice
2. Pics/Guides
3. Part resource
4. 800.00 you dont want
This car is so much fun to drive, but so much more expensive to maintain then I thought, but Im going to stick with it, and hopefully drive this thing to 500K. LOL
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Phoenix

Re: (phuz)

I always spend about 1 - 2 hours scouring the web and swedespeed before I post, and i can find nothing on this year/model.
As far as the smell, no... never smelt it once. I dont have the best sense of smell, but it almost has no smell at all, my brother has a great sense of smell and he had to get his nose almost in the carpet to smell it... I think the leak is so slow and that it evaps before I can really notice its physical presense untill i actually removed the matts to clean the car. I also dont get the foggy stuff out the vents like some have suggested, and my windshield is just now starting to haze over lightly from time to time... so it sux... and I dont have the 800 HAHA to fix it yet.
Hopefully that additive will seal up the leak long enough for me to save up the money to buy a new Heater Core, and If the community can help me get some pics/instructions to get to it that would be more than appreciated.
Thanks Phuz.
Phoenix

Re: Heater Core Leaking (Phoenixfyrr)

I had the same problem with my 00 s80 T6. After looking on the internet i found a site with picutures and a cause of the problem is the O rings that sit on the out side. My Heater core was not leaking and I have changed the two o rings and I have no futher problems with the heater.
Becarefull as it is a tight fit.
go to the google search enginge and type in Volvo s80 heater core leaking look for volvospeed.com. this step by step instructions and pictures.
still took me 6 hours to do the work. again it is very cramped quarters.
Now for my Questions,,,,, both of my Volvos a s70 and the s80 make a large clunck under the front of the car. what could this be. it happens only when hitting large bumps. Thanks for any help.
My last Question,
I reecntly had the windshield replaced in the s 80. prior to that daymy windshield never leaked. now after placeing three windshields in the car the technician says that the Sub drainis not connecting with the bottom. looks like something has been taken out? any sugestions?
Thanks to all who read this blog and I love my cars and they are both paid off is the best thing. please send any info to me at [email protected]
Kevin
