Heads up for 2021 - Only 1 real key provided

Something is funky with Profile 3.
Yes, and it's functioning exactly as intended. I experienced this with a Red Key years ago and promptly banished it to a drawer because neither I nor my newly driving teenager could put up with its restrictions (specifically the mandatory audible alarm for lane departure and the locked driver profile issues discussed in this thread).

Both the Red Key and Care Key are intended to be locked to Profile 3 with no ability to switch out of that profile unless you use a Black (unrestricted) Key. This makes sense for a Red Key, which was always intended to be used by new drivers, but it doesn't make sense for a secondary key which will likely be used by adult owners when Volvo provides it upon delivery instead of a second Black Key. Although the Care Key doesn't have all of the safety restrictions that a Red Key does (though you can either set or disable the maximum speed for a Care Key), both of these keys lock the user into Profile 3. Here are the differences between a Black Key and a Care Key assuming the speed restriction is disabled from the Care Key:

Black Key - can be associated with any driver profile or no profile at all
Care Key - must be associated with Profile 3

Black Key - if the car recognizes a Black Key but selects a profile that you don't want, you can select a different profile
Care Key - if the car recognizes the Care Key, you're stuck with Profile 3 until you remove the Care Key from the vicinity of the car, lock and unlock the car with a Black Key and then choose the profile you want.

Black Key - can be used to edit any unrestricted profile and the speed restriction of Profile 3
Care Key - can't be used to edit any profiles, not even Profile 3

Note that an owner cannot make a Care Key function identically to a Black Key because the Care Key will always have driver profile restrictions. So let's say that the primary driver keeps the Black Key in their purse/pocket and the secondary driver keeps the Care Key in their purse/pocket. What if the secondary driver touches the passenger handle and unlocks the car with the Care Key before the primary driver touches the driver's door handle while carrying the Black Key? Too late - the car has already locked itself to Profile 3 (the passenger's profile). Maybe the driver can lock and unlock the car again using their Black Key to release the driver profile settings, but if the car still refuses to release profile control (as mine often did whenever the Red Key was in the vicinity of the vehicle), then the Care Key must be moved out of range so the Black Key can hopefully regain profile control.

So much for Volvo's "luxury" experience.... "Dear, could you please walk with your Care Key to the other side of the parking lot so I can select my driver profile? And in the future, please don't touch the car before I do. Better yet, leave your key at home."

It's actually a little more complicated than this because Volvo's key sensing technology (unlike most other luxury vehicles) apparently doesn't take into account the physical location of the key. So it's probably more accurate to say that when any door handle is touched to unlock the car, it will identify one of the keys in range and select the profile associated with that key. Does it choose the key with the strongest signal? Does it prioritize the Care Key or Red Key over any Black Key? I don't really know, but my experience during the last five years of XC90 ownership is that the vehicle's profile selection is unpredictable when more than one key is nearby. And with the Care Key profile restrictions thrown into the mix, MY 2021+ owners with two or more drivers are bound to be frustrated.

This is not true from my experience. It should say "Black key - can be used to edit any profile except Profile 3". There is no way at all to edit/remove Profile 3.
You're right that you can't delete Profile 3 using any key, but the Black Key does enable you to adjust the speed limitation for Profile 3. So it's probably more accurate to say "Black Key - can be used to edit any unrestricted profile and the speed restriction of Profile 3." I edited the original post.

I had a customer just today didn't realize they had turned it on (I had turned it off before delivery)...
You only turned off the Care Key's speed limiter - you didn't disable its profile restrictions. Your customer still has every right to complain about the hassles associated with the Care Key preventing them from switching between profiles (see above).

It's a dangerous option frankly because if someone does turn it on and set it to 30 mph you could be stuck not being able to safely drive.
Seems to me that it would be safer to activate the Care Key speed limiter and set it to 112 MPH rather than to set it to 30 MPH and deactivate it. That way it doesn't matter if it inadvertently gets activated. Which is ironic for a safety feature that it's safer to set it to a high speed than a low speed.

Before I banished our Red Key to the junk drawer I had it set to 85 MPH because the speed limit on our freeways is 80 MPH and I didn't want our teenager to be prevented from getting out of the way of traffic.

The XC90 is her mom’s car, but our daughter drove it a bit while learning. It’s not the best car to learn on because it’s so wide and the corners are difficult to see.

Our daughter now drives an old Xterra which is perfect - good visibility and can bounce off curbs without damage.
