Hi everyone:)
I have been lurking on this forum since I purchased my s40 t5 awd about a year ago, and appreciate many of the great posts.
The question that I have for all of you involves the bsr ppc. I still have not been able to download the correct program that will not result in the read car error. Bsr is now trying to fix the problem for me. I this has been discussed many times, but has anyone had this particular experience? Thanks.
It took me about 1 1/2 weeks to get rid of the dreaded read car message. It did finally work, and it was worth the wait.

Re: (jclaib)

I've got a stage 3 Ppc on the way, hearing all kinds of things, wonder if rubbing the dash gently each night after instal will speed up the process. I'm hearing all kinds of things of the car has to "learn" etc. but one thing that keeps my hopes up is that most people say it was worth the wait, worth the trouble , etc. I guess , I'll know soon.

Make sure you have the current downloading software from BSR. Reboot your computer and make sure both cables are plugged in at boot up.
The last thing you should have down was an upload to BSR. Now you should be able to download the new file.

you have 3 cables on the box, 2 are for the computer, usb and serial connector, you need both to download the software to your ppc, one is for power and the other one to computer connection with ppc. The black one of course is just for the car.
Good luck

Thanks again for all of the help:)
I was able to download the program, but then when I tried it in the car, I got an "error 1" message.
I have the check engine light on in my car because I have to get the o2 sensor replaced. Do you think that is why I am getting the error message? Thanks.
-Bobby

did you put the key on III? a lot of people forgot it and the ERROR I appears, the key should be on the position exactly before to turn on the engine.
check:
http://www.bsrab.se/faq/13/

III is to start the engine. You don't want to start the engine.
The manual also states that all error codes should be resolved before trying to tune. So maybe it is a good idea to get that O2 fixed first.

Re: (rcy4499)

Not sure if anybody got BSR to work the first time around. I got the "Read Car" message but got a working program a few hours later. Since you have an AWD, I'm guessing the program is a little different and they are fixing small little bugs as they come along. Jclaib was one of the first person I know to get BSR, and it took him a few weeks to get it working. About a year later when I got the BSR, the bugs were mostly resolved. So hang in there.

It is a fairly impressive increase. My wife has a standard s60 @ 168HP. When I bought the T5, I thought it was much faster than her car.
The move to a BSR chip resulted in a similar upgrade in performance.

Re: (rcy4499)

Trying my best to be unbias, it's hard to compare. IMO, I think BSR remapped the throttle to be more sensitive. I mean pressing 1/4 gas after the BSR flash is equal to 1/2 BSR before. It will be first thing you notice. The car will lunge forward as if you floored the gas. At first I thought the extra boost cause the car to give it more gas, but after reading the R forum, I believe throttle mapping is most likely the case. It would have been a better comparison if I had a pedal to the metal driving pattern. Pressing the pedal slightly will cause the car to downshift and take off whereas before it would stay in gear.
Third gear is where I feel the car's true power. It's scary how quickly the speed can climb. Maybe it is because the 1st and 2nd torque limiting on the GT. Overall I'm happy. I flashed it back to stock for a dealer service and it felt dog slow. I thought about driving at stock for a few days, but the car felt so slow. Made me feel ... unconfident. When I got home, I abandoned that idea and re-tuned my car. Ahhhh so much better.

I also returned my program to its stock form about a week ago for a dealer visit. I decided to leave it like that for two weeks and then change it back to reevaluate the difference.
It has been soooooo hard not to go back but I only have four days left. I can't wait.
I agree, the power is definately mostly felt in third gear, and then well into fourth gear as well. Be careful on the highway when accelerating hard. You can find yourself going 100mph + without realizing it.
