Hey, I have been reading up about the issues with the warranty and mods, and was wondering what people's experiences have been with their aftermarket parts. Have you had any issues with Volvo, or any problems with the car since? I am looking at two R's one already has mods (R Salesman's) and one does not, so I am debating what I am going to do. Any input would be great.

Re: Have you had problems/regrets about mods? (Kivas)

I have had some complaints (not about warranty issues) that the modification was not what the customer expected...
Someone might not realize that there is a compromise to many (almost all) modifications....
Stiffer springs can make the ride too stiff for some... Cause rubbing issues, etc, Same with bigger wheels...
Power upgrades typically will hurt reliability and/or fuel economy...
Just be sure you are honest about what you really want out of the modification...

I would classify my car as "slightly modded" and I have no regrets with any of them so far.
The only thing close to a regret I would express is that I wish I had stayed at the ver2 SUM suspension software instead of upgrading to ver4.
BTW, I have had a few rides in R Salesman's car and you'd be nuts not to buy it for fear of the mods! It is an extremely clean, fully dealer serviced moderately moded R.
My $0.02.
-Ben

Only issue was when the dealer flashed my SvR Stage 2 ECU back to stock
moddeR

well my car is very slightly modded and i'm very happy with the increased performance. haven't had any problems so far knock on wood!
but i do have one complaint which is the strange whistling sound from the custom 3" downpipe.
no, it's not the turbo whistle. turbo sounds just like i expected it to. this is something else... what i'm hearing is a slight shrwhshrwshr sound from outside the car when i'm on throttle. it started with the installation of the custom dp... i'm thinking of taking it back to the guy who made the dp for me, and have it examined for any possible flaws that could cause this annoying sound.

The only regret I have after my IPD stage 2 ecu upgrade is the 11-14 mpg. Compared to stock 18-22mpg. Of course that upgrade gets me at WOT alot!

Re: Have you had problems/regrets about mods? (Mash)

I have been driving mine without "S" selected, still getting better performance than stock and getting 22 mpg average (mostly highway commute) with the A/C blasting and it being near 100 here in NC.
Granted I have not been [insert favorite adjective here] M3s lately either. Just driving back and forth to work.
-Ben

I know it's been discussed before, but I have no regrets about the IPD upper motor mount--it's now much easier to launch and shift. The increased interior vibration is very minor.
I realize this is hardly a complicated or difficult modification, but some people are very sensitive to additional NVH.

Re: (Edogg218)

IPD swaybars- absolutely great!!!
TME springs- made the feel of the the sways that much better. The car felt like nothing it has ever been.
BMC filter- well it's a filter, and I don't relly know if it does much of enything.
SvR DP- definately added to exhaust flow and a little tone. I drove with it only for 6 months. Turbo spool up was better.
TME exhaust- finalized the the sound I wanted. Not overly loud and conservative in nature. On the plus, it helped flow over the stock system.
Engine bushings (X3)- increased the feel of the car overall with the suspension mods. Much tighter feel and very happy with them, I'm still looking for more bushing mods that will increase the feel of the tail section.
Regret taking off the GT3071 from time to time.
Maybe add it to the S60R in the near future but first I have some other cars to take care of...

I got the Black Evolve mount and didn't like the slight increase in vibration at idle, especially in the winter. It's a luxury sedan, I want SMOOTH. I had to cut part of the blue plastic engine cover away to get at the bolts without having to mess with removing the IC pipe and buy a new stock mount since the old one was destroyed in the removal. Interestingly the new stock mount was different than the one the car came with - Volvo apparently improved the design. At least with the blue plastic cover cut away I can now swap mounts in about 10 minutes. So I could feasibly get the blue stiff mount and put it in when I go to the track.
