I have a 2005 S40 and would like to install an inline FM modulator. I've never tinkered with my car before, so please forgive my inexperience. The guides in the sticky have been very helpful, and now I want to remove the hat deck to get a look at what I'm dealing with. But I can't.
I'm trying to follow these instructions from Reid's (BtownVolvo's) XM Commander guide:
"Start by removing the back hat deck lid by pulling down on the two plastic tabs and pushing up on either side to snap it out of place. Once both sides are undone, slide it towards you."
I've pulled down on the tabs, and the "christmas tree plugs" are out of their holes. Now I'm pushing up on the sides, but nothing moves. Maybe I need to push harder? I'm just afraid of breaking something (again, first-timer here). Any tips or more detailed instructions? Thanks in advance!
(Also, I've tried sliding the hat deck towards me in case I had snapped it out of place. It doesn't move.)

Re: Hat Deck Removal (jbruer)

Are you talking about the piece of plastic in between the overhead lights? If so, you just need to pry it out. Don't be afraid, but don't be too harsh. I've learned that with nearly all cars, all it takes is just a little more muscle. That said, I don't want to be the one responsible for anything you remove . Good luck.

Just give it a quick jab upwards on both sides. There are two plastic snaps on each side. Worst case scenario, you break the tabs and go pay a dollar for new replacements at the dealer.

Revolve,
I'm actually talking about the big piece that goes from the back headrests to the rear windshield. (I know that may not be a very good description.) But thanks for the advice, and don't worry, I won't hold you accountable!
Reid,
I'll give that a shot tomorrow. Thanks for that and the wonderful writeup!

You mean the rear dash?
Rear dash has 2 pins that pops out. IIRC, they are the same "christmas tree plugs". Cars are put in place by many of these pins, just pop them out and the whole piece should be able to come out.
I can't remember which one I took out first, the C pillars or the rear dash.
