Love my '04 T6 w/ 18" Atlantis Wheels but tires are an ongoing issue ...
I really hate to open a new tire thread but after reading tons of other threads on this topic, I don't yet know the answer to this question:
Has anyone liked (been satisfied with) their current tires enough to buy another set of the same tire ???
I don't plan to run a dedicated snow tire, so I am looking for good All Season Tire. I found the Michelin Pilot's OK in Dry and Poor in snow, The GY Eagle Response Edge (current) drove nicely and provided adequate to pretty good snow/ice traction but are worn out in 2 years & about 25k miles... I'm trying to decide what to choose next.
As noted in all of the threads, the 235/60 R18 size of the OEM tire is limiting selection...
* Has anyone tried the GY Fortera Triple Tread in 255/55 R18 ?
* Are there any things to watch out for when moving to 255/55 R18 in general ?
* I see several drivers with Nokian's, Yokahama's and Conti's, but no-one has specifically indicated they were happy enough to purchase anouther set of them the next time around.... Has anyone gone in for 2-sets yet ?
Tire choice shouldn't be a major research project every two years
Thanks in advance to tolerating ANOTHER Tire thread

Re: Has Anyone Bought Same 18" Tire Twice ? (MA-USA)

Yes,
Continental CrossContact LX, 255/55-18, twice, and will keep buying them untill they are available.
Look better than 235/60-18, and have great wear resistance without noticeable sacrifice to handling in dry, wet and light snow conditions. M+S rated and truly all-season tire. Not noisy. Drove them for over 50K miles.
Great value too @ ~$150 a piece.
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/...urvey

Well, I certainly don't begrudge you for starting this thread. I'm looking for the same info and found it odd that I couldn't find anyone who had said the same thing.
Thanks for the info (and link) on the CrossContacts. I seriously hadn't heard about those - and my 4x4 Contacts (255/55/18) are getting close to the end of their life.

I will absolutely buy Nokians again. They have been great tires, and they are wearing very well at 34,000 miles.

This is the second set of Falken STZ-04 i have had, not on the same car but i love the tire on mid-sized SUVs. We have had falkens on our last four cars. I think they are a great bang for your buck brand, and the have good millage warranties.

Having had XC90s for about 6 years now we've bought about 4 sets of the OEM Michelins (usually through Costco.) The Michelins tend to be the most expensive option but I bought them for the peace of mind in the rain, sleet, light snow of Seattle.
Now that I've moved the XC90 to our home in the U.S. Virgin Islands and it's about time for new tires I think I'll be opting for something much cheaper since the island is barely 25 miles long with barely any highways.

Morgan-Tec
Thanks for providing feedback on the Falkans. I've seen your review/recommendation in another thread too - you seem very happy with them. How many miles on them with your XC90 ?
Rollie - All I can say is I'm Jealous and would trade New England Snow for US VI narrow hilly roads in a sec!
Cheers
K

Re: (Telliedog)

Thanks to Morgan-tec, LTA and Telliedog for your replies.
Nokians seem to be consensus re-buys but i just decided on 4 more GY's.
I am going with 4 new GY Fortera Triple Tread tires because GY came up with 49% disc to price of New GY's because my GY Response Edge hit their wear bars @ 25k miles (50k mile Warranty).
I liked the RE's while they were relatively new (Smooth running on dry roads, Good Traction in wet/Lt Snow and Low Noise. But @ about 4/32 remaining tread we began to get a small vibration (Wear bars) & experiencing some awful Hydroplanning. 25k miles isn't enough to get me to re-buy a $180 tire.
I'll let everyone know how the Fortera Tr Tread run later this winter.

Re: (MA-USA)

I have put 2 sets of Michellins on the my 04 T6. The first set got 35K. I got 25K out of the next set, but only because one tire had a slow leak that the wife didn't notice, and she wore it out. Rather than take a chance, I bought a whole new set at 62K.

I am on my 2nd set of OEM Michellins, and am very disappointed in them. 18K on both sets is poor! I am also looking at the GoodYear Fotera Triple Tread, but wasn't sure of the size, my decision is down to 255/55R18 or P235/65/R18, mostly cus of the warranty, and the tires are rated for higher weights, and better performance, 10/0 on wet, dry and winter. My local dealer was going to try out both sizes on the rims, because the 255/55/R18 seems to prefer an 8"rim. For those that used a 255/55/R18 how was the fit, and any issues? MA-USA any feedback on the fit of the Fotera and which rims are you using?

Re: (Triniguy2)

I mounted the Fortera Triple Treads in 255-55 / 18's on the 2004 "atlantis" 18in rims. They fit fine and give nice, quiet, supple ride in dry weather. No noticeable gain or loss in handling over GY Eagle Response Edge's they replaced.
I've only had them on for a couple months. Others XC90 owners I know in Greater Boston report only good things in snow and ice from last winter, but i will need to wait for this winter to say anything personally.
Cheers

Re: Has Anyone Bought Same 18" Tire Twice ? (MA-USA)

I have the 2004 XC90 2.5 with 18" Atlantis rims. I am on my second set of Bridgestone Dueler Alenza tires and got 40,000 miles on the first set. I am very pleased with these. You would be too. If anyone out there is getting
any better milage from their brand tires, let me know!
