has any one installed three car seats in the back of an V70R?

I would need to install two rear facing infant seats and one forward facing toddler seat, is that possible? Maybe if the infant seats go behind the passenger and middle, The toddler seat behind the driver.

We found out that we are having twins and already have a 16 month old son. Trying to figure out if a V70R will work as our family car. I have a westy vanagon that we would use for most in city driving but want to make sure a v70r will also work for going up to the mountains and road trips.

I doubt you'll have room for three unfortunatly. I've had a forward and a rear facing seat in the back of my R and there was barely enough room for the diaper bag. Granted, the wife packs that bag pretty full, but I doubt there is room for three seats, though that depends on the models and their size obviously.

SOmeone has done it, IIRC.

It may be possible to fit them in but I don't see how you would be able to drive or have a passenger in the car with you unless the driver is really short and the drivers seat is way up
this does not look promising. I heard about these combi seats that recently came on the market that are very small. Their website says that most rear seats will accomodate three of them. Or we are going to have to start thinking about the M-B R class.
Re: (toro)

Hey Toro - I've had 3 child seats in the back of my '04 SR, but man was it tight and my wife was driving. I'm 6'4" and don't think I could have pulled it off...my chair would have been too far back.

I had a Britax forward facing seat, my 8 month old daughters rear facing car seat and base and my 4 1/2 year old son's booster seat with back on it. The Britax and car seat were strapped down tightly but man was it a PITA getting my oldest son's shoulder belt latched.

This was a 1 day thing for us while my wife's minivan was in the shop. I would not suggest doing it all the time as a daily driver...the kids would be claustro-freaking-phobic.

Good luck...

One toddler seat that is REALLY small (thickness wise and width wise) is the Sunshine Radian 80.

Check it out. I would NOT recommend it for someone under 2 years old or rear facing at ALL. You just cant' get it tight, and the top is so tall that you can't fit it.

But for forward facing, it's really sweet, as it's so thin.

first, congratulations!

second, yes, I have done this; it will be VERY tight and being able to do it at all will very much depend on the specific seats. I think I just got very lucky. This was almost 5 yrs ago now, and I got rid of those seats a while back (I've got 3 in boosters now and a 12 year old) and don't remember which ones we have. They are probably not on the market now anyway.

If you can, try to "test drive" the seats before you buy, by bringing them out to the car and just see how they fit.

third, kiss all the skin on your knuckles good bye
I've also got 3 little ones and it is a tight fit. Look for the narrowest seats you can find. I have found that the boosters are generally too wide to allow you to fit 3 across and still be able to access the seatbelts. Once they are over 4 feet tall, it also is a tight fit for the one behind the driver (and I am not even 6'). kenschel...LOL - totally agree about those knuckles!
I run three kids in the back but two are on the integrated boosters (worth their weight in gold) with a forward facing shild seat in the middle.
Re: (ktm_525)

I just installed my daughters rear facing seat last week and I have a four year old in a booster seat. I know there is no way I could get another seat back there and get them all strapped in. The rear facing seat is smaller than the one we used with my first daughter and my poor wife has her knees right up to the dash when the seat is in place (and she is only 5'-4"). Right now I'm wishing I had the extra 1 or 2 inches you guys have in the V (please leave this comment alone I know it's tempting). Does anyone want to trade?

I can't imagine it working with three seats.

I'm 6'1" and couldn't fit a rear facing infant seat behind me. I'm also not sure how it would work widthwise. We've got two boosters (one is a Roundabout and the other is a Cosco somethingorother) installed in our Honda Pilot (which is much wider than the R) and there's no way we could get a third one in. I can't imagine getting three side by side in an S60.

Congrats on the twins though. Get your rest now. You're going to need it!

Time to buy a XC90. http://********************/smile/emthup.gif The day we brought our second home from the Hospital I realized I was in trouble. We actually had to fit someone between the car seats on the ride home. We ordered the XC90 soon after.

S60R? Could probably do it but it would be extremely tight, both width wise and in terms of leg room. V70R? Get the right ones and should be doable - I believe the back seat is wider and defintely has more leg room (I never had three back there but had a rear facing and forward facing for awhile with no real problems) plus once they're old enough for the built in boosters, you're golden
