Took 04 V70R in for noise( grinding) over front wheel area. 31,000 miles. Had a cracked front right strut plate, so dealer replaced both front strut plates and all strut mounts. Are dealer replacement parts R only, or shared with XC70 and V70?? Are the strut plates and mounts all the same and shared with the s70, V70, XC70, V70R line in production, or did the R get special performance version? The reason I ask is because the noise is gone, but the front of the car feels a bit softer ( like the front had a shot of novicaine) than before, much like my friends xc70. Is it just me?

Parts.

**replace both upper strut plates including new hardware /R.

7 CV
Part number: 2 8646713

31282 Removed both front struts. Replaced strut mounts. Reinstalled struts. Road tested vehicle. Tested ok. Completed.

** Replaced All 4 lower Control Arm Bushings /V

7 CV
Part Num : 2 8630604 0 Bushing
Part Num: 2 9465971 1 Bushing

31282 REmoved lower control arms. Replaced all bushings. Reinstalled control arms. Checks Ok. Completed.

Thanks for any info...

I think they're all the same.
You should have asked them to use XC90 spring seats, they fit and are more durable/
It's you

Shrooman...did they replace the bearing plates (metal fittings with three bolts that attached to the shock tower in the engine bay) or the spring seat (rubber piece that fits into the bearing plate)? The latter are known to be early-fail devices (mine went at 25K, and I think that set is ready to replaced now at 55K), and as JRL points our the XC90 version have gotten a big thumbs up from other SS'ers....whereas the bearing plate is considered more sturdy and less like to fail early.

He said a strut plate (the metal piece) cracked and they replaced everything, spring seats and the strut plate(s)
Pretty rare for that to crack at those miles
(I assume he meant the rubber spring seats when he said mounts)

I posted all the parts that were the repair order on my post...I think they did replace the spring seat though. Should have done my homework for the xc90 version, but if they fail again in the next 4 years or 50,000 miles warranty will cover em. I had to eat the bill on this one...ack! And yeah, the right side did fail pretty early at only 30,000 miles. Bay Area roads man...horrible!

Why did you pay anything at 30K miles?
These are warranty items, get your money back!
Hell, even VIP warranty pays for spring seats and strut plates

Original 2004 warranty expired. Got the Easy care 1.5 months ago ( $2,700.00, 4 year, 80,000mile, 100 deductible. Noise developed while under their contract. They denied claim because they said it was impossible for the strut plate and wear damage to occur in 1 month ( 600 miles) and labeled it pre existing condition or damage. Go figure! I called easy care and they flat out told me no chance they'd cover it. They sent out a guy to take pictures and again refused. I hope they cover other stuff as it develops...maybe I should get a refund and get volvo coverage.

The work order states:

"Auth'd replacing CA bushings/strut plates which are listed for coverage but not covered by extended warranty due to milage elapsed since contract"

As I said VIP covers it.
Get rid of the Easy Care and see if you can get a Volvo warranty.
You may be able to because of the low mileage.
If Easy Care says it was existing, get Volvo to pay for it as it then was under the factory warranty and they missed it!
Both of these can't each have it their own way, it's one or the other.
You have a tough road but you may be able to do it. Otherwise sue Easy Care in small claims court.
I have had a part fail right after I sold a car, company said it was existing, they
wound up paying for it anyway after we had a "talk"!

They can't say it was a prior condition, they have no idea when it broke.
It can break the day after they pick up a warranty, too fu**ing bad, they have to pay

Wow, spread 'em wide. Pre-existing??? Of course it is, everything is wearing on a car, so by that rationale the whole car is a pre-existing condition. Which is exactly why you got coverage, you have an existing car.

This is so absurd it sounds like a Seinfeld episode. Get your money back and get a VIP. Geez.
