after filling at a hess and driving for 10 miles, i was shifting from 3rd to 4th at 5000 rpm, no biggie. and all the sudden it felt liek the car went into neutral and dropped into 4th. then the car lost all but 100 hp. guessing it went into limp mode. yeah so i have made appointments to get boston volvos moble repair unit to come and reflash it. so i ask you guys do you think they will void my warrenty if i have a CAI? I know at Jon at boston volvo village and he is chill.

Just maybe?
Penguins....they shouldn't void your warranty unless they can prove the cause of the problem was related to your CAI.

Unless you sucked some monster bug into your intake, the CAI isn't going to void your warranty.
Sounds like you might have gotten a bad tank of gas -- still not covered under warranty, but the gas station will be liable.

Not sure that a re-flash is in order here. That applies to 2006 models. I have not seen reported cases of that failure (ECT) on 2004 models.
Any other indications? Any messages on the DIM?
If the air intake has been modified, did something come loose, in particular post filter?

Re: gurgle gurgle dead (p0cket penguins)

I've had this happen twice in the past year. Both times it was within a few miles of filling up at a gas station with which I had no prior experience. I'm fairly certain I simply ended up with bad 'watered down' gas in both cases.
To fix it I simply had to restart a couple of times and drive a few miles. I then drove the nearest top-grade station and bought their highest octane gas. Squeeze as much as you can into the tank and go for a nice highway drive to burn off some more. Refill with highest octance highest quality brand again (e.g., not Hess.) Eventually you'll burn the crap gas out/mix in enough good gas to make the problem go away.
I didn't have any long-term effects in either case.

Good thing it happened their and not on the way to CT. You've got a big list of upgrades to be done I see.

Re: gurgle gurgle dead (p0cket penguins)

There are several older threads about similar problems: hesitation, power loss, etc. I was experiencing short hsitations and an occasional 2-3 second major power loss similar to what you described. For my '04 the problem was a faulty fuel pressure sensor, at least as indicated by the "check engine" error code.

Re: gurgle gurgle dead (Filson)

well at low rmp close to idle i get a hopping or bucking effect then once i get to 2000 up to 3000 rpm it smooths out. yet every once in a while the throdle response cuts out and i lose all throddle. strange enough though after letting it idle for 15ish minutes. everything cleared up. so i thinking it can be computer related. either that or bad gas.

Re: gurgle gurgle dead (p0cket penguins)

I hope its not HESS gas because that is what I have been using for years now. Its the cheapest 93 octane in my area and its always been good on performance and mileage.
Btw, penguins, its throttle, not throddle

Re: gurgle gurgle dead (phuz)

haha im so bad at spelling, not my strong point. and its probably the owner of the station. probably why his gas was so cheap as compared to the near buy stores. **owner thinking, " water plus gas equals a larger profit margin, by God im a genius"**

do you have any friends that fill up at the same station that maybe they had the same issues?
if you had several people with this happening, it would be just cause to go after the station.

Gas floats on water, so even if you added water to the tank, you wouldn't get much mixing.
In any event, do you have the latest ECU software upgrade from Volvo? The 2-3k stutter sounds a lot like a TNN that's out there.
