Hi all!<p>I don't know if this has been asked before (if it has I apologize) but an interesting question came up in a conversation with a fellow SS member:<p>For the GT torque limiting in 1st and 2nd gear, why only those two gears? If the transmission is presumed weak? The other gears seem fine so why are those 2 gears considered the weakest link? TIA!

The transmission (any transmission, auto or manual) doesn't carry nearly the higher torque load in those higher gears<br>because <B>of</B> the ratio itself

Think of the gears as a series of levers. Force (torque) is multiplied at each stage of the gear train as distance of movement (rpm) is reduced.<br>

Think of a multi speed bicycle.<br>In low gear(s) that sproket is turning furiously, (as are your legs)! <br>In high gear it's turning very slowly with not much strain on it (and less movement on your legs)

Mike go ahead and do the IPD w/TQ delete I haven't had a problem neither has anyone else from whats been stated here, you don't appear to be the type to hammer your car. Unless the warranty issue is stopping you obviously.

If you had a bike with a weak chain, it would easier to break with a low gear selected (high gear ratio). If you assume maximum input torque from the rider is his full weight on one peddle, in low gear you might want to keep part of the rider's weight on the seat to save the chain. In the higher gears (lower gear ratio, less torque multiplication) go ahead and "stand on it."<p>The above assumes at least part of each gear ratio is selected at the front sprocket.<br>
