I am hoping that someone can help me recall the name of a tire shop in Gothenburg - we picked up our S60R today, and will be traveling to Norway over the next two weeks. Forecast calls for some snow, even at this late time, at the locations we will be driving to, it may be prudent to attempt a switch to a more appropriate tire. A while back, there was a thread on a tire shop in Gothenburg that was recommended - however, I have not been able to find it in the archives.

Thank you both for your quick replies - I appreciate the help. Another option we may choose is to simply avoid the high mountain roads and travel to our destinations via ferry if there is possiblity of road problems.

Don't worry about snow tires this time of the year. It is about 30 days since Norwegian had to switch their studded winter tires to summer tires.

I went home to Norway during Easter and most of the snow was long gone.

I would highly recommend the trip - enjoy Norway!

Thats exactly what I mean! Don't take no ferry! Make sure to experience the scenic roads of Norway behind the wheel of your Swedish beauty!

Concerning the retail/service network: http://www.bilia.se.

Re: Gothenburg Tire Shops (jonas_lindquist)

Jonas and Steinar,

I have taken your advice - no problems at all. Apparently, the Accuweather.com forecast is not that accurate. I am currently in Flam after driving all day in sunny weather. It is about 45 degreees or so at 10PM local time, yet accuweater inidicates that is currently 30 degrees and raining (very cold rain I guess). We will not be taking any ferries as they are on strike as of a couple of days ago. The two scenic ferries we were planning on taking were in Naerofjord and Fjaerland. Fortunately, we can drive the coast as a replacement. We did need to take on ferry to get to Balestrand from Flam - if it still not operating in a few days time, this will require some adjustemtns and considerablly more driving to get around the fjord!

Ja..too bad about the ferry strikes and you having to take the long way around the fjords in your S60R...last summer we were doing the same in our new V50 T5 AWD.....would love to repeat the experience again!

Have a great trip...btw...we dropped off our car in Drammen to save the drive time/gas cost back to Goteborg..would do it that way again.

Re: Gothenburg Tire Shops (jonas_lindquist)

Well, we have completed our trip, some 1616 miles later, with no problems at all - even the ferries came back on line after one day. Rgearding Snow - it did in fact snow on occasion, but the pavement was so warm, it was a non-issue as many suggested on this forum. So, thanks to all who encouraged us to stay with the tires as is. I will post a proper trip summary in a seperate post after digesting the experience a bit, and sorting out the posting process for pictures. In short - it was great fun traveling the roads of Norway in an S60R!

Re: Gothenburg Tire Shops (dymondclay)

I dealt with Allen Stuart at Weaver Brothers - excellent person. This was our second OSD through him. You may already know this, however, Volvo of Cary and Weaver brothers are owned by the same folks (the Weaver family).

The trip was excellent overall - in three weeks I saw a total of 2 other R's, both on the last day. One in the FDC parking lot, and one registred to a Norwegian some 60 miles north of Goteborg. Pretty rare vehicle that seemed to attract a lot of attention (although some of that as my wife said may have been due to the color or the swedish export plates). I am working on a proper writeup and will post that soon as well. Hope that your trip goes very well, and that you enjoy driving in Europe - where will your intinerary take you?
