This is what happens when you hear a sudden loud bang in your transmission and lose AWD.

The sleeve / coupling on the gearbox output shaft.

A quick examination of the worn output shaft. I suspect this sleeve has been installed by a novice. Output shafts are not supposed to wear like this.

Removal of the Angle gear and sleeve

Examination of the worn sleeve (Transmission side)

Examination of the worn sleeve (Angle gear side)

So as you can see, the grooves are well worn and munch munch.

New sleeve will need to be purchased and inserted.

Part number: 31256008 / (9181408) O.DIA 60 mm [27 below]

** Please note. Manual M58 transmission pictured in photos above. Other transmissions may differ.

The teeth on the angle gear itself are okay? They seem a bit worn; perhaps it's the pic. How many miles/km on your R?

Looks like it needs to be welded to the trans end.....
MIG it on the inside of the collar to the final drive output and then cut the hole for collar weld on the AG side on the bottom and weld it after bolting in.
Then if it fails you'll need to buy a trans and an AG (you really need those now).

Are you doing all this yourself? If so can you take some detailed pics of the process please?

So looking at the 2nd pic down that you call the output shaft, is that the tranny or the AG? And is the output shaft replacable or do you have to buy a new AG or tranny?
