I upgraded my 1994 850 Turbo Wagon to a 2001 XC-70 and finally got it on the road this week. Some may find this hard to believe, but I picked it up for $10.5K and it needed an alternator, which was $250 and about 2 hours of my time. The car is black with tan leather and has 44K miles. It does not have any paint work or damaged panels. I followed this board for quite some time to learn from everyone on the issues. I brought it to the dealer and they performed a tune up and recall (fan motor?) and the service writer said it was in great shape. The car has not yet has the throttle body issue, but I'm ready.
D-

44K miles and only $10,500?
You got one heck of a deal, my son
(Wonder why the alternator crapped out at those miles)?

Re: Got my "new to me" 2001 XC-70 on the road (JRL)

Not sure, but there was no output from the alternator, I posted on this a little bit ago. I also dropped it to the dealer for a complete tune up and they did the recall work for the radiator fan. I forgot to mention, but the car came with a brand new set of Michelin tires, but is missing the fuel door - broke off at the plastic hinge. I have to contact a Volvo salage yard for the fuel door and also visit the Volvo dealer for a second key and remote - ouch! I'm also going to have a 4 wheel alignment done so I can be sure the new tires do not weat funny - this is for my peace of mind since the car does not pull left/right.
The price attracted me, but it also has the 3rd row and also integrated booster seats for the kids. Their in boosters now, not big enough for the 3rd row yet.
Does anyone know a source for the rear wing used on the "R" models? There was one installed on my 850 wagon and it did a great job a directing the air so the rear window stayed nice a clean in foul driving. Would like the same for this without paying dealer pricing.
D-

Sorry, this is a US spec car delivered in the US and without cruise. Has a Volvo plastic piece over the left side of the steering wheel opposite the radio funtions.
D-

You bought it used....it had to have had cruise. I'm thinking that it broke and previous owner took it out.

I "generalized" when I mentioned throttle body - I should have properly called it the ETM issue. Car runs great and I have not a single complaint.
D-
